If there was a poll to each of the Iowa State players and coaches they would certainly want the crowd to stand and be as loud as possible for the entire game. I will do my part to help the team. Sitting down won't work for me.

I am not going to influence others to sit BECAUSE I'm sitting, but I can influence those around me to stand if I stand. I hope my point is getting through. You have three choices if somebody is standing:
-Stand with them.
-Yell at them to sit down. (Most don't like conflict, especially with fellow fans)
-Sit and not see.
I stand at big plays and try to get others to stand with me on third downs.(Section 13). But I am 6' 3" and 270, if I stand, most of the people behind me can't see. It was a problem when we moved from our East side seats to where we are now. I was yelled at for standing too much and after realizing that I was keeping others from watching the game, I realized that I was being a jerk. Noise hurts the offense, hence why we get loud on defense. So if you are saying to be loud by standing, what benefit to the team are you doing by standing while we are on offense? Jump up and be proud on good plays or first downs!
We are trending down on season tickets? Is it the product on the field? Is it the whole game experience? Is it the economy? I don't know the answer, but I tend to lean on the experience you have at the game. Being a ******* on either side of this issue will only hurt ticket sales.
Me, Me, Me, is where our society is headed. It was pointed out many times in this thread. Should be interesting to see how a socialistic government will work with our self-indulgent population. My guess, not very well. Give ME MY entitlements!

And while some of the thread has been whiny, there has also been substantive conversation about what other teams do and how we can best cheer our team to help them win. We have to get past the "we must stand up or we are not fans" mentality. And we can only allow knitters who are also big donors!
FYI, I especially enjoyed this game because most of my high school friends went to Northern Illinois. I would gladly endure painful feet to watch us beat them soundly!
I have ZERO problem with you as a fan if you choose to sit.....just don't yell at me for standing. If you want to get some traction with me, be polite, tell me nicely I am obstructing your view and I will do my best to accomodate. No need to start a confrontation or yell obscenities. It's amazing what a little courtesy and a "please" will accomplish. I don't think any less of you for sitting, but don't think that means you can be a dick to those of us that want to stand.
I am conscious of those sitting behind me. I will sit here and there, but before I know it, I find myself standing again. It's just what FB brings out in me as I watch the game. I'm not trying to be an a-hole. Talk to me with courtesy instead of assuming a confrontational approach and you might be surprised at the response.
Everytime I have witnessed this in the stands, it seems the sitters just start out with the obscenities and the "sit your butt down" approach. There is no "please"...there is no common sense to addressing the individual at all. Act like a dick with your request for a stander to sit and you will get it back tenfold.

Re: Standing for the Whole Game
It is about courtesy and being there for the team.
I have stayed out of this (for the most part until today).
In general
- all fans should be up more than down (esp on 3rd down, big plays, etc)
- when someone is standing, that is great if they are being a strong fan.
- someone who yells at someone to sit down (without being polite) and someone who feels it is their god given right to stand are equally being *****.
-I have a spouse who is 5' and to girls (13 and 11). When everyone is standing they struggle to see. All I ask is for someone to be courteous. Someones right to stand does not trump someones right to see the game (see how security would handle it). If you are the only person standing, then ask yourself, who is the odd person out.
-Everyone has an opinion on this and this is an annual thread topic. Next up will be leaving games early, out at half, and leaving Hilton early. It is what it is.
-My pet peeve, those who feel they have to stand all game telling others to stay home. Wow, talk about being a poster child for a tavern hawk. (IE: totally ignorant fan).
Carry on.
