Re: Standing for the Whole Game
I hate the "die hard standers" and feel terrible for the old ladies that sit behind us that don't get to watch any of the game. Standing the whole game is for students and the most annoying thing about section 20 is that it's the landing place for recent grads, who continue to stand.

Fortunately my buddy calmed me down before I did something stupid. But I now understand there are those that don't want to or can't stand the whole game.
Not sure how we could possibly resolve it. No way we could have standing and sitting sections. LOL, this would be funny. We could designate one side of JTS for the sitting folk and one side for the die-hard fans.
Personally, I'm not one that stands the entire game, but I stand for all key plays and am into the game a lot. I don't have a problem with those who stand though, and that's my point. If one or two people stand, you can still see around them. It's not like its a wall.

And, my feet hurt bad! However, I would much rather stand in pain with a crowd who cares than sit comfortably with a crowd that doesn't. Unfortunately, there's too many that wouldn't.

Re: Standing for the Whole Game
Whatever happened to just going to games and cheering like crazy cuz you love football and you love Iowa State, I won't ever tell someone they need to stand for the whole game and I'll never tell someone to sit the whole game. Too much whining on here about stuff like this. I love that all the students stand the entire time. I understand older fans or people with physical reasons can't. You just gotta feel the group of people you're around. I'm for sitting during offense UNTIL a good play like first down or a big play, it's fun to watch replays of everyone standing up at once on a long run or pass. On defense, the more noise the better on each down. But I would like to see everyone who is able standing and yelling on 3rd downs.

About every 2-3 months, I invest in another set of Dr. Scholl's inserts for my shoes, and I'm good to go all the time, standing on concrete for the game, standing on concrete at work, or whatever.
Honestly, that might be a really good answer for you.

It's a FB game...stand if you want.

Re: Standing for the Whole Game
What started as a great student effort to support their team has gone too far. However, it now seems that people all over the stadium are yelling and cheering loudly through the whole game. And they look at folks who don't as if we aren't supporting the team.
Well, my head hurts when I am exposed to loud noises for long periods of time. Further, I actually like it when something like a key third down makes people yell and cheer. It was our football sense of how to act as a crowd in these situations to help our team that previously distinguished us as a well-educated fanbase.
Maybe we should sell "noisy" tickets and "noise cancelling headphones."
Man, do I sound old, but my head hurts! -
Re: Standing for the Whole Game
Sorry, but I personally do not feel obligated to curb my enthusiasm because you want to stay sitting.
Real fan support and passion can affect the game. It is VERY obvious when the fans are sitting on their hands and not supporting the team.
Both enthusiasm and apathy are contagious. Which one do you want spreading throughout the fan base?
This is also part of the problem I have with Sweet Caroline being played at the crucial point between 3rd and 4th Q. That is the point, especially in close games, that you want the most energy, not the most warm fuzzy feelings.
I know some fans love it and I like the student section involvement, but make it a tradition to play it after wins. Also, it looks completely stupid when it is played when we are losing.
The same goes for Hey Baby. I am a former band member so I have a soft spot for the song, but not the timing. Again, play it after wins.
The main point, if you want to sit, that is fine, but do not harrass other for standing. I have had friends physically manhandled for standing and cheering their hardest. Ridiculous.

Just be courteous to those around you. Try not to force someone to sit if they want to stand and vice versa.
