    Re: cyclone football question

With a largely-debuting defense, it was likely that our tackling was that bad, but our guys will get better,
They got better after that first drive. They'll be solid.

    Re: cyclone football question

Both, but mostly missed tackles. We missed WAY too many...and I'm sure they've already heard about it and the coaches are working on it. The guys were, for the most part, in the right position...they just couldn't bring him down. Spann is also a beast...we'll see some very good backs this year, but only a couple will be as hard to bring down as Spann. Others (DeMarco Murray, etc) will be harder to get to and will make us miss, but not as difficult to bring down once you've hit them.

I imagine that tackling will be worked on most of the coming week by the defense.

Both. Bad tackling and Spann is a good RB. I don't know why NIU didn't give it to him more.

Many times bad angles taken and the weak one arm tackle bit us more than once.

    Re: cyclone football question

If we are to beat K State and Iowa, we will need to tackle their running backs. If CPR says we need to improve, I know we need to improve.
I was very happy to see that our defense did so well.
It would be good to see a replay of the game,
I have end zone seat seats and can not see many details

Spann is a good running back.

This very well could have been a different ball game if they didn't dig themselves a 17-0 hole. I bet they really wanted to feed Spann the ball all night- but you can't when you have to pass predominantly to catch up.

    Re: cyclone football question

I'd put it at 50% bad tackling and 50% good RB. Spann is a very good RB. He must be an extremely strong 198 lbs. But don't forget he was a beast all year last year too, so it wasn't all due to bad tackling on our part.

However, I did see our LBs take some really bad angles on him, and not wrap up at times too.

I give Spann a ton of credit though. The kid runs HARD. Unfortunately, Adam Robinson from Iowa is probably VERY similar to Spann in his running style.
