As I promised on Wednesday, here is the latest from the
MBB recruiting circles...
- ISU will host a handful of talented basketball players on Saturday, Sept. 30th. Current ISU committee Craig Brackins will help try and convince Andre McFarland and P'Allen Stinnett to make a commitment while on their visit. Also in attendance will be the much desired Kenton Walker. Brackins, McFarland, and Stinnett are great friends and should feel right at home with a staff that has gotten to know them better than anybody could imagine so early on. Hopes are high that ISU can get a verbal from all three visitors and I'm certain that we'll try our hardest not to let the kids leave without knowing how much ISU wants and needs them.
- As a backup plan to the current recruiting priorities, ISU has two or three other offers that could be handed out shortly after the above planned visit if no verbals are made by the time the three studs leave campus. Highest on that backup list is the often talked about Levi Knutson. Knutson is a versatile player that would fit the new style of play very well. No offer has been made to Knutson as of yet and no offer will likely come unless McFarland or Stinnett fail to make a decision while in Ames on the 30th, or if the staff wants to pressure them some. Levi is said to be very interested in the style of play that ISU is talking about, as well as the thought of being able to provide some quality minutes fairly early on.
- ISU had hoped to keep it quiet for a while but apparently somebody couldn't help but leak the news that an offer has been made to 2009 PG Elijah Johnson. Johnson is an incredibly versatile and talented guard from Las Vegas that already has interest from Texas, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Gonzaga, Oklahoma, and USC. Look for more on Elijah over the coming weeks and months as things start to heat up a bit for the '09 class.
- On a quick FB recruiting note, ISU will host a very large number of potential recruits for the Sept 30th UNI football game. I would expect Chris Williams to be posting more on this in the coming week, make sure to check out his posts for more information.
As a reminder, I will be on vacation all next week and will have intermittent access to the site via my laptop and Treo. I will make sure to keep in contact with sources and I will update the front-page with any pertinent information. Look for the site to run as normal with regular updates from me, as well as other moderators and contributors.
As you will have noticed, there have been a lot of new features added to the site over the course of the past week. Please let me know what your feelings are on the changes and I will make sure to tweak things as need-be.
