Men's Basketball Recruiting Update - 10/2/06

As everybody knows, ISU had a big weekend for the future of the Men's Basketball program. Current ISU recruit Craig Brackins and hopefuls Kenton Walker and Andre McFarland were in attendance.

While I have not talked to the recruits themselves, I have talked to three separate sources that say the weekend went incredibly well for everybody involved. While I'm not a betting man, I wanted to give an update on where I think things will land. I wouldn't put odds out there but I think we're all in need of a big pick-me-up to focus on rather than dwelling on the same things surrounding the football uncertainties. So here we go...

Chances of committing to ISU:

Kenton Walker - 95% chance he commits to ISU this week, he loved his visit and the staff loves him.
P'Allen Stinnett - 75% chance he commits to ISU, uncertain of timeframe, he may decide before coming to Ames on the 21st.
Andre McFarland – 60% chance he commits to ISU, he still likes Idaho a lot and it will be up to his family as well as Walker and Brackins to convince him either way. A decision should be made this week or early next. I feel good about him but not certain.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Jeremy, do you mean "it will be up to McFarlands family as well as STINNETT and Brackins to convince him either way"?

Nope. I really think the decision making will come down to family first and then Walker and Brackins. Stinnett and McFarland have already talked so much that I don't think they will help the other decide anything further. Walker really liked his visit and him and McFarland really like eachother a lot so Walker would probably have a lot of influence in any decision...

Seems like we have lost ground on McFarland according to your sources. 60% of committment is a lot less than you were indicating previously. If I remember correctly, 80-85% for both Stinnet and McFarland was an oft-quoted figure before.

Hey, if we get Walker and Stinnet I am happy - but I was under the impression that Stinnet/McFarland were pretty much a package deal.

Arrived in STL via Ames, IA & Bloomington, IN!

I really hope we land all three. Deace on "state of the nations" last week said that if he could get all five of these guys on campus next year it would be arguably one of the best recruiting classes at ISU since the 80's when we brought in jeff grayer and guys like that. I don't think that's far off. It would be huge to make a splash like that with his first real recruiting class.

I think the decrease in certainty is just a matter of Andre's thinking process. His number one priority isn't basketball and he really like what Idaho and ISU have to offer besides BBall. If it were just basketball, I would say he would commit today to ISU, but that's not the case.

60% is probably pretty accurate when you look at all the factors, that still puts us more likely to get him than not.
