Really, is it that hard to hit up the university website and realize that the tradition of Cy the Cardinal was not due to the fact that our colors are cardinal and gold, but the our mascot was actually a cardinal before our win against Northwestern?
C'mon, EA Sports, I had a lot more respect for you than that. Seriously, did they get there information from eastern Iowa?  Not to be argumentative, but where on the university website do see that our original mascot was once the Cardinals? I'm honestly asking because I've looked before and can't find it.
I've had this conversation with my dad before. I did some online searching at the time and came across this link from the ISU Alumni Association website... VISIONS Fall 04 | 125th Anniversary Celebration
It seems to confirm what EA has on their website and mentions nothing about us previously being called the Cardinals.
I've found plenty of other websites that perpetuate the story of us being called the Cardinals at one time (Wikipedia for one), but none of them name their sources for making this claim, nor are they officially part of the university.
I've reached the conclusion that the story about us once being called the Cardinals is an urban legend of sorts, but I could be wrong.

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.
