So even if they did count voting by IP address, every computer on ISU's campus could vote once individually. In other words, labs are fair game.

I've had this conversation with my dad before. I did some online searching at the time and came across this link from the ISU Alumni Association website... VISIONS Fall 04 | 125th Anniversary Celebration
It seems to confirm what EA has on their website and mentions nothing about us previously being called the Cardinals.
I've found plenty of other websites that perpetuate the story of us being called the Cardinals at one time (Wikipedia for one), but none of them name their sources for making this claim, nor are they officially part of the university.
I've reached the conclusion that the story about us once being called the Cardinals is an urban legend of sorts, but I could be wrong. I was a tour guide at ISU from 2005-2007 and that was the story that was in our handbook. They tried to create a cyclone mascot, but they couldn't. So, because one of our colors was cardinal, they went with a cardinal. We used to get that question all the time from people not familiar with ISU.

Too many corporations operate with firewalls and a single webproxy. So 10,000 users at, say IBM, would all show up with the same IP address. And many ISPs do the same thing, like AOL, for example.
I did some "work" on the Macromedia Flash application that runs the contest (if anyone has already posted this, sorry i didn't want to read all 47 posts). Here's what i discovered.
It's not using a cookie. The Macromedia Flash application is dropping a file, with the DateTime of your vote, buried deep in a folder. For my Microsoft based XP box, it is at:
C:\Documents and Settings\<MY LOGIN NAME>\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\DSQJ9GG5\ www.easports.com\ncaa09\swf\main.swf
There's a file named: ncaa_mascot.sol
Delete this file, and you can vote again.

Why does the KSU mascot have an animal head, but human arms... that really bothers me.

Really, is it that hard to hit up the university website and realize that the tradition of Cy the Cardinal was not due to the fact that our colors are cardinal and gold, but the our mascot was actually a cardinal before our win against Northwestern?
C'mon, EA Sports, I had a lot more respect for you than that. Seriously, did they get there information from eastern Iowa? actually we didn't have an actual mascot until 1954. Cy - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - Iowa State Cyclones Sports

I don't think we were ever the cardinals...it is just our school color.
