ISU Third and Advance Nine at NCAA Championships

ST. LOUIS – Mitch Mueller (149) and David Bertolino (197) provided bonus points for Iowa State as the Cyclones advanced nine wrestlers through to the second round of the championship bracket Thursday afternoon in the first session of the NCAA Championships at the Scottrade Center. ISU ended the afternoon in third place with 16 points. Iowa leads the team race with 19 points and sends seven grapplers into the championship bracket. Central Michigan has 18 points and is in second place. Nebraska and Minnesota are tied for fourth. The second session is slated to get underway at 6:30 p.m. Live updates will be available on cyclones.com.

“We feel pretty good about getting nine guys through the first round,” head coach Cael Sanderson said. “Obviously, we wanted all 10. We’re wrestling well right now and we’re looking forward to tonight.”

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.
