ISU: ISU to Travel to Penn State for Regional

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State gymnastics team used a strong showing at the Big 12 Championship to vault themselves into the NCAA Regional Championship April 29 at 5 p.m. in Happy Valley. Penn State is set to host the regional. Live stats will be available at cyclones.com

The top 36 teams in the nation qualify for regionals, with six teams being placed in six different regions. The No. 1 seed in Iowa State’s region is Georgia, the top-ranked team in the nation. Auburn, Denver, Penn State and BYU will also compete against ISU. The top two teams from each region advance to the National Championship meet which will be held April 24-26 at Georgia in Athens, Ga.

I will assume that the date of the NCAA Regional Championships is wrong. But hope they have a strong showing like they did at the Big 12 chamionships. Denver and Auburn are ranked about the same as Nebraska. Penn St. is also ranked. Looks like it will take a great performance to make the top 2.

Wrestling: 87
Women's gymnastics: 64
Women's bowling: 28 (including NU and most of the MEAC and SWAC)
Women's equestrian: 18 (including Baylor, KSU, OSU, A&M)
Men's gymnastics: 16 (including 6 Big Televen teams, OU, NU)

I added the last three as potential AD expansion ideas, just for fun (and would be in accordance with Title IX).
