Hubalek Shines At Portsmouth

AMES, Iowa- Iowa State’s Jiri Hubalek may have been one of the last guys invited to the Portsmouth Invitational last weekend, but he was the first on the list of many professional suitors when he left. The 6-11 center raised eyebrows with his performance at Portsmouth, making the all-tournament team while averaging 17.7 points and 8.7 rebounds against the best senior basketball players in the nation.

Hubalek did it all at Portsmouth. He was one of the top rebounders at the camp, ranking fourth among all players, and he was the third-best scorer. He also showcased his shooting touch, drilling 8-of-14 from 3-point range at NBA distance.

Great for him. From flashes of greatness we saw, he can still improve.

Good job outta Jiri. I still don't think he has any chance in the NBA, but maybe he can have some good work-outs and sneak into the late 2nd round.

Does this have any affect on whether or not he is invited to the Pre-Draft camp? Or is that already decided?

Usually the top 4 or 5 players from Portsmouth move on to Orlando.

Good for him!

Greg aught to be able to showcase Jiri's highlight reel before and after he arrived in Ames to big man prospects...and have good luck with it.

Re: Hubalek Shines At Portsmouth

Not a surprise. I have always felt Jiri was under appreciated at ISU. We will miss him next year. Granted, the pro game will suit his style more but if ISU had a few other pieces in place he would have excelled. I do think it is obvious he benefited from being coached by HCGM.
