LAWRENCE, Kan. – Iowa State out hit Kansas seven to five but stranded eight runners in a 6-2 loss to Kansas in the regular season finale for both squads on Sunday afternoon at Arrocha Ballpark.
The Cyclones (28-28, 4-14 Big 12) had runners in scoring position in the first four innings but were able to score just a single run during the stretch as Kansas’ (37-18, 7-11) pitcher Allison Clark got out of numerous early jams.
Kansas took the lead in the second on Brittany Hile’s third home run of the season. The solo shot was the first hit of the game for the Jayhawks.
Another long ball in the third added to the Jayhawks lead as Val Chapple blasted a three-run homer to center to make it 4-0 Kansas. KU took advantage of a pair of Rachel Zabriskie walks.
The Cyclones got one back in the top of the fourth on Courtney Wray’s first-pitch homer to leadoff the inning. The homer was Wray’s fifth of the season.
