AMES, Iowa – Iowa State athletes won six events at Saturday’s Nebraska Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. Tiffanie Synacek won the high jump and Ines Fischer captured the 400-meter hurdles in women’s competition. Leia Jackson of Iowa State won the 100-meter dash in 12.43. Her teammate Monique Hawkins was second. Hawkins won the 200-meters in 25.20 with Jackson placing second. Robbie Utterback won the discus throw and Clayton Carper won the 5,000-meter run in men’s competition.
Synacek, a freshman from Council Bluffs, cleared a collegiate outdoor best and regionally-qualifying 5-8 ¾ to win the high jump competition. Fischer, also a freshman, took the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.62. Utterback, a sophomore from Clive, won the discus throw with a season-best toss of 160-7. He also placed fifth in the hammer throw. Carper, a freshman from Mason City, won the 5,000-meters in 15:17.26, leading a 1-2-3 Iowa State finish. Zach McFall was second in 15:27.89 and Daniel Murray was third in 15:44.57.
In the men’s 1500-meters, Cyclones Jory Zunich and Josh Lewis placed fifth and eighth, respectively.
ISU’s Michael Alexander, Johnny Reel and Richard Newton placed second, third and fourth, respectively in the 800-meter run. Iowa State’s Eric Parker placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, as Cyclone Chris Ward finished seventh. Justin Peel was third for
ISU in the 200-meter dash. Peel placed second in the 100 meters.
Iowa State’s Lillian Sawhill placed eighth in the women’s discus throw.
ISU’s Kelli Oettle was sixth in the 1500-meter run and Cyclone Erin Penticoff was third in the 400-meter dash. Kaylee Small placed fourth and teammate Molly Lohry fifth in the 800-meters. In the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase,
ISU’s Rachel Bell was second and Brittany Rover was third.
Iowa State will compete next week at the Big 12 Championships in Boulder, Colo.
