ISU vs. Kansas Post Game Analysis - KU 41, ISU 10

ISU got blown out today by the bottom-feeder (correction, former bottom-feeder) of the Big XII by way of the Kansas Jayhawks. With this latest disappointment, the Cyclones fall to 0-6 in the conference and 3-7 overall and enter an even darker low during what many had expected to be arguably ISU's best season.

While there have been plenty of disappointments over the years, today’s romping by an incredibly week and perennially crappy Jayhawk team at home strikes many as a new low. There have been bigger losses by way of points but there was not a single time today where ISU looked even remotely like a Big XII caliber team. Its one thing to lose by so many to Nebraska, Oklahoma, or Texas like we used to, but such a devastatingly embarrassing showing against such a week opponent has never taken place in Jack Trice Stadium before today. There are many of other games that rank up there but this takes the prize in my book.

Will this game have an impact on the future of Iowa State football? Well it sure won’t help recruiting, ticket purchases, team or fan moral, or pretty much anything else. You can shake some losses but this one’s going to be felt for a long time, possibly even past this season as recruits and coaches start to make decisions. There’s no sugar-coating on this one guys, no excuses for this level of play at home with everything to prove. While I won’t deny that injuries have hurt an already shallow Iowa State team, a good team should be able to overcome that for at least one game against the worst team on your schedule.

About the only thing left for ISU to do this season, besides look respectable or squeak out a conference win, is to decide the fate of Head Coach Dan McCarney. Many fans listened to the calls for team-spirit and helped bring a respectable crowd to Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday but many left half-way through the game feeling sick and let down once again.

What will happen to the coaching staff in a couple of weeks? Only Jamie Pollard knows but the fans might make their choice very evident when the attendance numbers are released for the Missouri game on the 18th. While it’s always important to support your team regardless of the current controversy, you wonder just how many are going to brave the cold Iowa weather in November to watch what will most likely be an even more lopsided loss at the hands of the Tigers.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Well put as usual, Jeremy. Makes me wonder if Pollard will live by his statements to wait or pull trigger now? I think now but he is in the driver seat. The wheels are completly off this program at this point, the team morale has to be in the crapper. I know mine is.

I would not be surprised if McCarney announces his "retirement" this week

Michigan State fired their coach mid-season hopefully we can do the same. I used to think Mac deserved the entire season. I don't think that anymore after today's performance.

I think we have to be careful in firing mccarney this year. I no we have alot of recruits waiting on what were going to do with him which could hurt for recruiting if we fire him. Also, if we fire him that means meyer and blythe have to learn a whole new offense in one years time. We all know how a new coach does in their first year somewhere because they need a couple years to build it up.

I can understand and appreciate your position - you make good points.

Answer me this...based on what you've seen this year, the players we return, the leve of recruits we have so far and the schedule - what do you think our record will be in '07?

Blythe and Meyer learn a new offense??? They don't have one right now. The same 7 plays are ran every game but the one i love the most is the 3rd and 7 draw play right up the gut. I wouldn't worry about them learning a new offense.

Breakdown was 41-10.
Breakdown every week.

Bruns said Kansas did same stuff on offense and defense last year. So why are we so much lousier this year at home? No running backs that can play in D-1??

IF the fans showed up against Missouri as much as the team showed up today it'd be one empty stadium. Let' sall mail our unused tickets for the missouri game to Mac at home, with a little note that says, "since your team isn't bothering to show up anymore, neither will I. please give these to someone who gives a damn."

With the kind of performance that was displayed today, McCarney should resign immediately. That was just embarrassing!

I disagree, I will be there in two weeks supporting the team. Now that still does not mean that I will get tix next year.

Today, I had a family function and was unable to go to the game, and I won't miss another (this season).

Now when I get season ticket information, and the request that I increase donations, and pay more for my tix...then I will think about finding something different to do on Saturday afternoons in the Fall.
