Lightbulb Potential CF Feature - CFAlerts

I want to solicit some feedback on a potentially new feature for the site...

A user would be able to opt-in to receive text message alerts when breaking news regarding ISU happens. The announcements would be very limited in nature and only occur for big news stories. The service would be free and a user could opt-in and out whenever they wish.

Does this sound like something you guys would like? If so, would you want final scores and/or just breaking news stories?

Update - I will be able to have different alerts for the different interests. Depending on how people want it, I can have a Breaking News, MBB Scores, FB Scores, WBB Scores options so you can subscribe to each one separately.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Personally, I wouldn't use it.

I would take both, only if they are free for you to add.

The feature is out there from some places, but not as good as what this could be I think.

I wouldn't use it either. I pretty much know any score I want as it happens and I'm on this site all the time anyway to know when any big news is posted.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

Same as what rworkman said, word for word. I travel a lot for work, so the texts would be nice.

I'm assuming that will cover a lot of people. I have no idea what the level of interest would be in this service, it should be interesting.

To clarify - it would be 100% free for everybody, the only potential charges would be if you get charged a fee to receive text messages.

Ah. I figured it would be free for us. I was saying only if it was free for you, Jeremy, to add the feature.

I know you can get text alerts of scores from USA Today for free, but can't get the breaking news.

I voted no, however I thought more about it and decided I might use it for scores. I'm signed up to get ISU scores via text message from Yahoo! Sports, but they don't always send them and it makes me mad when they don't. So I might use CF for scoring updates via text message if it was available for free...

text Iowa State to 44636 and you'll get scoring updates from USA Today.

I have no interest in the scores beyond football and basketball, and I'm usually on top of those anyway. They would get to be an annoyance for me. The news updates would be handy the once or twice a month that something really major happens.

I have text message alerts from 4info.com for everytime the score changes in the cubs game and I get end of game scores for Cards and Brewers to keep up with the cubs standings. I would be for this service as a lot of time when I'm out and about, it'd be nice to get such scores!
