Wallace Makes his MNF Debut a Nifty One

Seneca wasn’t overly flashy, but no one expected that out of a guy making his 2nd career NFL start behind a Seattle line that hasn’t exactly been playing the best football. With the rain, it was clear Holmgreen was very content with getting an early lead, running the ball and begging the Oakland offense to do anything worth mentioning. The Raider offense didn’t disappoint, giving up 9 sacks, producing just 230 total yards and an ejection of a player.

Wallace did look very poised and well prepared for the game. He was almost always on the mark with his passes; unfortunately the Seattle receivers have a case of the dropsies.

Seneca’s final stats

Passing - 18/30 for 176 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 3 sacks, Long 23
Rushing – 3 for 49 yards, 0 TD, Long 37

The TD pass to Branch was a pretty one, but the 37 yard scamper from Wallace was a lot more fun to watch. Of course, ESPN delighted us with the highlight of “The Run” from a 2002 ISU win over Texas Tech.

Up next for Wallace, a Sunday afternoon date with the Rams. A tougher foe than what he faced tonight, especially when you look at the Rams offense. Their defense will give up points though. Also, it seems Seneca will have the pleasure of a Pro Bowl running back, as Alexander may return next week. However, this could be his last start as Hasselback is expected to return when Seattle goes on the road to face the 49ers.

All in all, a clean game from Wallace tonight. Not the same big numbers he put up against Kansas City, but I think he played better tonight – being virtually mistake free. A good pair of auditions for other teams around the NFL!

That was frustrating to watch his recievers drop balls. Jeremy Stevens let a TD pass hit him in the chest.

It's typical Jeremy Stevens. Worrying more about who he can trash talk with instead of catching the ball.

I wasn't at all sad when he took a shot to the pills from the Raider defensive lineman that was ejected. Sapp was less than kind to Stevens in his postgame interview as well.

Stevens is quickly getting a reputation of trash talker who really has little to talk about.

Animation of the shot Stevens took...

Re: Wallace Makes his MNF Debut a Nifty One

He played pretty well, and took good care of the ball. If Stevens could catch a pass, he would have had 2 TDs.

I also really enjoyed when the announcers went into how Seneca really improved after taking some cognitive ability classes, since he was having so much trouble understanding the wickedly complex world of NFL offensive football schemes. Sure made me proud of being an ISU alumni. That sucked pretty bad.

I know that star atheletes at the 1-A level at most schools (all schools?) get a pass on alot of academics as long as they make their SAT minimums, but it was pretty painful to have an ISU player singled out for about 2 minutes straight on a national broadcast. I know he wasn't taking quantum physics, but to have to go back to school to get smart enought to read the playbook is rough. Glad I don't know any hawkeye fans out here.

Otherwise, congrats Seneca on your first NFL start to finish win!

The "school" as teams around the NFL call it is not only offensive schemes, but reading defenses and blitz packages etc. It sounds alot worse than it really is. Reading colligiate defense is tough, let alone NFL defenses. I read an article about Holmgren and Seneca and it was very positive about what the "school" does for players.

Beside the receivers dropping balls, the offensive line would get a false start every single series and back them up which didn't help the situation. I though Seneca played well, it was everyone around him that kept them from moving the ball more.
