Some people don't realize you can be critical of how things are going while still respecting somebody. I think Mac is a very good coach and I know he'll be successful wherever he ends up. My respect for him is seperate from my ideas for what should or should not be a win or loss or close game. It's just not the same thing. Mac himself has said this year has been a dissapointment and there are no excuses. I guess if he himself says it, it's good enough for me. I don't see how that makes any one of us two-faced for loving the guy but being critical of the lack of success this season.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Does this mean we bought him out?

This may be a stupid question but IF Mac resigns do we still have to buy out his contract?

The details of any agreement are not presently known. There has been a school of though that Mac may step down and not hold ISU to the buyout, but another school of thought that he deserves that buyout. I don't have any information right now on what the details are going to be. It may not even be fully decided as of yet.

No matter how anyone feels about Dan, at minimum he deserves that buyout and a very appreciative crowd against Mizzou. All ISU fans (not just football) owe Mac a thank you for all he did at this fine university.

While I have been one that has been advocating that Mac be replaced, I still feel bad for him and the rest of the coaching staff. As one who has suffered a job loss, I can sympathize with the pain, stress, and fear that one goes through (including families) when this type of thing happens (especially with the assistants). I hope that everyone will be able to land on their feet and be able to continue their careers. We all need to remember that these are people too and that they have all the same emotions, concerns, and responsibilities as the rest of us.

I'll be there to support Mac. I know many other fans will join us.

Okay to throw just a bit of humor into this. Coach Mac has been making a million dollars a year for quite some time. I don't think finances are probably hurting for him...He's probably thinking it's time for a long vacation...

I do feel for the assistants, but they'll land somewhere...

I really hope this move to ask him to resign before the end of the season doesn't send the wrong signals to potential future coaches of ISU football.........after all Pollard has said he would wait until the end of the season to make a decision.

Pollard must either want the best pick of the lot of coaches or he already has a plane waiting for someone. Loney maybe since he was reportedly in town lately.

Well said Jeremy. Dan McCarney the person has been great for ISU. I like him a lot. Dan McCarney the coach did wonders in digging us out of a hole, no doubt, but it's become painfully obvious that Dmac the coach isn't going to do much else. Too bad Dmac the person has to go too. Some decisions are tough, but have to be made. This is a great example.

I'll be there for the Mizzou game sending Mac off the right way.

I had mixed thoughts about whether or not to stay in Ames to watch the Missouri game (it's on the Saturday of the first weekend of Thanksgiving break), but you can bet the farm that I'll be there for sure now to give Mac a proper farewell. Everyone please encourage as many people as you can to attend the game and support the team in Mac's final effort as Head Football Coach at ISU.

Thanks for everything you've done for us Dan! Everyone appreciated your hard work and enthusiasm!

I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

Dan will be missed (even if this is the right move and the right time). I say lets pack Jack one time for Dan as a last going away present (lol. and mizzu would never expect a crowd like that from a team that is losing like us). Would there be any chance of keeping Dan involved at ISU? Assistant someplace, desk job, etc?

Re: Dan McCarney Has Been Asked To Resign As Head Coach of Iowa State Football

Agreed. While I have been against him as a coach since about the middle of last season, I have never abandoned the fact that I sincerely appreciate what he has done for ISU football while recognizing what he can't do. The latter has begun to severly outweigh the former, and that is why he is no longer going to coach this team. It's a business decision, and in my opinion, a smart one. However, even though I feel that he can not take this program any farther, I am greatful for what he has done here, and I will give him an appreciative send off (both for the fact of what he has done, and the recognition for what he cant do) at the Missouri game. While many of us have been pretty critical of Mac (self included), I think there is definitely a common feeling that we all appreciate his pulling us out of the toilet bowl. He's a good man, who has admittedly driven me nuts on more than once occasion, but I wish him well in life, and hope like hell that his succesor can take us to the next level.

I'll order up another shot of sin, I'm running twice as hard into the wind, I'll hitch a ride when the next one comes in, fell off the wagon again...
