Re: UPDATED: Dan McCarney In Final Negotiations For Resignation

As a Nebraska fan living in Iowa, let me say that Mac has done alot for Iowa State and for Iowa in general, his passion and enthuasism for the game is very contagious.

Coach McCarney, thank you for all you have done at Iowa St. Best of luck to you and your family.

Re: UPDATED: Dan McCarney In Final Negotiations For Resignation

This is definitely a sad end to Mac's era. Dan McCarney has been the foundation of the ISU Athletic department through thick & thin; especially since the tragic loss of Pete Taylor. Not to mention three athletic directors, two presidents, the Larry Eustachy debacle, etc. Dan has always been the solid rock ISU could count on. It's unfortunate he will not be able to leave ISU on his own terms. Dan will always be grateful to ISU for this opportunity.

"I don't know how many more days, months or years Margy (McCarney's wife) and I have left here in Ames, but there's no way I'll be able to repay what this job has meant to me. I'll always be a Cyclone."

The least we can all do is stand behind the whole ISU Football family and show up in masses for the Missouri game.

Ill be there on the 18th!!!! It saddens me that hes leaving but I trust Pollard knows more than i do. I thought he should have one more year with some new staff, but I guess we will never know how that would have turned out. Youre a good man MAC and I wish the best of luck to you.

Re: UPDATED: Dan McCarney In Final Negotiations For Resignation

I for one, won't miss Mac. Yes, he is a class act and always represented himself and the university well. What I won't miss is his "play not to lose" mentality, the terrible play calling offense, and all the excuses. I think it was clear that he was able to take us from a bottom feeder to being a decent team (bowl games) but was not able to maintain that level or raise it to the next.

Sorry, Mac you are a victim of your own success. People want us to field a decent team and at LEAST be competitive in the B12. The perception is that you are not the man to do it. Best of wishes and good luck elsewhere. Hopefully, we can get a new man who can recharge the program, get us back to where we were a few years ago, and then even raise the bar again.

Question Re: UPDATED: Dan McCarney In Final Negotiations For Resignation

Jeremy,

I don't want to doubt you, although why did DMac tell the media just the opposite?

http://www.kcci.com/sports/10271928/detail.html

I am in Missouri mode (Show Me).

Although...........as I am typing this, the following appears as breaking news.

http://www.kcci.com/news/10273562/de...11010611082006

Again, don't mean to doubt, just don't want to get my hopes (for a change) up.

Some of us have been through

1. Johnny Majors- leaving for Pitt- Bowls and exciting football
2. Earl Bruce- 3 yards and a cloud of dust Earl
3. Donnie Duncan- we went down hill here-he was no J Majors
4. Jim Walden- He had good Jokes but couldn't coach at this level
5. Jim Criner- couldn't get him fired fast enough
6. D-Mac- 12 years long "let's have a Pitty Pat party" Spin Doctor
7. A new era- change is good and should not be feared.

Some of us have lived through many trails and tribulations of Cyclone football, a change was overdue. Time to move the program forward and not look back

I understand your point to move on, but what is wrong with looking back at what he has done for the program? His resignation just became official less than 24 hours ago. I compare this to grieving b/c he was important to a lot of people. What is wrong with taking a step back and thinking about what he did for a minute?
