Re: Short list of possible replacements for Iowa State

I would take Price in a heartbeat, and not just because he loves strippers named "destiny".

How about a coach that will stay more than 5 years and retire when he is ready at ISU? Hire an up and comer? OK, let's say some 30+ guy comes in and turns the corner and leaves after 3-5 years for greener pastures. (money, climate, etc.) Price is expirenced and won't leave, he'll retire here if he wants the job. Besides if you watch UTEP play as I have you will see a team that is well coached and disciplened.
I don't think Price is too old either. And I think to succeed at ISU we need to bring in a bigger name like Price to recruit. ISU basketball wasn't turned around until we brought in Johnny Orr. If someone like Price came in and built a winning tradition for seven years, then he could retire at 67 and hopefully bring in an assistant to take over once the program is established.

How tough is that really, though? You or I could probably recruit a 4 star to Texas. Bringing that same guy to ISU is the trick.

No - Tight ends coach, special teams coach and recruiting coordinator (not all at once, just at various jobs)

Good point - especially considering what Oklahoma has done without Bomar and Peterson out...

I agree with that - it might be appealing for a hotshot young coordinator to come in with him - knowing he's got a good shot at the reigns in a reasonable amount of time.

Re: Short list of possible replacements for Iowa State

I beleive I post something after the Nebraska game about a Texas Coordinator. Because a friend of mne knows someone in the AD's office, that said Pollard wanted a coordinator from Texas. Man do I have good sources or what. Either way they all look like good candidates.

I believe Harbaugh had a Solich/Huggins-esqe run in with the police around the time the Sandiego State job was being filled. That may have affected the Sandiego State job. I'm not sure on this, so maybe someone can verify.

Re: Short list of possible replacements for Iowa State

I agree that 60 isn't too old.

Here's a little excerpt from a USA Today article two years ago:
"Coach Price brought a whole new mind-set into the team. We believe in each other," sophomore quarterback Jordan Palmer says. "He came into it saying, 'This is my second chance, my second opportunity.' At the same time it's a second chance, second opportunity for us, a team that has earned whatever the worst ranking in college football is. He brought in the whole attitude of 'What's behind you is behind you.' It was time to start over."

The year before he got there, UTEP was 2-11. At the time this article was written (11/8/04) they were ranked by AP.

In addition, he has two sons coaching with him (who were also at Bama).

Wasn't he also coach of the year at Washington State?

Age is what you make of it. If he has the fire and passion (not for Destiny), then why not?

Ok, I think you've swayed me. Still with the McDermott and Sanderson hires, JP has shown that he seems to prefer the young up and comer as opposed to the old war horse.

I don't want anyone from nebraska. Please take that O cordinator off the list!!! please please!!! I have confidence that JP will make a good decision. Most of the canidates look good. I'd love to get an up and coming hot shot that could get some speedy new recruits!
