Now that Mr. Pollard has had time to make it official, we can talk a little bit more about the newest member of the Cyclone Radio Network.
This morning, Jamie Pollard announced that The Bus 100.3 FM will become the new flagship radio station for
ISU Athletics. The move will take place gradually and will be complete by the time the major sports seasons begin.
While this news might not be what some of you had expected, you need to realize that a lot of the
ISU faithful are younger individuals that might not know what AM radio is. I know that sounds hard to believe, but being on an FM station more often is really the key to the future generations.
With the most recent announcement, Iowa State will be broadcast into every house in the State of Iowa. This latest change in
ISU radio coverage is just the beginning of what will be many major changes to the way we currently listen to, or view, Cyclone sporting events. There has been a very noticeable lack of consistent coverage for the Clones throughout the entire state and that will soon becoming to an end.
Over the coming years, not only will
ISU grow it's radio presence, but also it's local, regional, and national television audience. There are many possible avenues for the athletic department to pursue and I think over the next few seasons, it will be very clear that the new AD's office knows that the key to success is often times major media coverage. You can have the greatest fans going to games, but if a major recruit doesn't think they have a chance of being seen nationally, there isn't a lot of pull towards the midwest. This announcement, and the many future media related announcements, are one of the most integral parts of ensuring
ISU reaches the next level.
