AMES, Iowa—The Iowa State soccer team has two players spending their summers as members of the Minnesota Lightning of the W-League.
Ann Gleason and Elise Reid have helped guide the Lightning to a 5-1-2 record in the nation’s highest level of women’s soccer. The Lightning were one of only four unbeaten squads in the W-League before a setback Sunday.
The W-League is comprised of current collegiate players and former professional players from the around the world. The league is a member of the United States Soccer League, the largest elite-level organization of soccer in North America.
“Ann Gleason and Elise Reid have an incredible opportunity playing with the Minnesota Lightning this summer,” said Cyclone coach Wendy Dillinger who played for the W-League’s St. Louis Archers in 2004. “The W-league is the highest level of women’s soccer in the country and top players from around the United States play in it.
