Yeah - we'd have to find out all the news AFTER it happened on the local TV news or newspapers. Yaawwwwnnn... How'd we survive??

Yeah, I wonder what people did at work 15 years ago? Work? Oh the humanity!

Today, still wanted by BCS teams, he survives as a coach of fortune. If you have a problem - if no one else can help - and if you can find him- maybe you can hire: Gene Chizik.

Re: Tim Brewster As ISU’s Next Head Coach?

I've been digesting the info on the net about Tim Brewster and Jim Harbaugh who have both been mentioned as possibilities for the ISU job. At first I was leaning toward Harbaugh. Well known. Head coach (but at a small, small school). And so on. But now I think Brewster might be a better fit. Harbaugh's experience is only at the Pioneer Football League level. BIG step up to Big XII. Plus he is divorced (no family to tie him down) and if successful would definitely be on the hunt for bigger and better things. Not sure if ISU would have enough going on socially to satisfy him as he has basicly been in mega city environs for the last unpteen years.

Brewster has been a recruiting coordinator at the highest level. Has been an accomplished positions coach at the Highest level. Has been on the staff of some of the best programs (both college and pro). I think he is hungry and ready to make the next step up at a Division I program. He was a finalist for the Illini job given to Ron Zook (head coaching experience giving Zook the nod). Brewster is a native of the midwest (might be here for a while). I'm sure he has learned a lot from his coaching stops. At every location where he coached, the teams were winners while he was there. He has contacts in recruiting the midwest (Illinois) and Texas, plus he was at North Carolina so he would have contacts in the Southeast.

I think Pollard has Brester targeted as "his man". Pollard has shown an uncanny ability to close the deal.

As far as Mac resigning, I think that there is NO QUESTION that Mac loves ISU even to the point of resigning to further the ISU football program. You can tell that NO ONE wanted to take Mac's resignation but WE HAVE TO for the sake of the football program. I think that Mac and Pollard both felt they needed to get this done NOW before any more momentum left the program. The upside in this whole situation is the classy way it was handled. Also the fact that "the Jack will packed" for the "farewell for Mac" at the Mizzou game which otherwise might have been a disaster attendance wise. I will be there myself.

Great post. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Re: Tim Brewster As ISU’s Next Head Coach?

The issue I see with an NFL guy is the recruiting this year. Remember when Weiss took over at Notre Dame. The NFL season goes so much later and if Denver makes the playoffs that really interferes with the recruting seasons. And if we don't pick up some guys this offseason, we're in trouble for a few years.

But since Weis was a coordinator for the Pats, don't you think he HAD to stay. I wonder if the Broncos would let Brewster go early since he's "just" the tight ends coach. You've got to think Pollard was thinking about that before making him his top target...

Re: Tim Brewster As ISU’s Next Head Coach?

he could bail early if he wanted to. someone like Harbaugh or at a current college wouldn' be able to leave (or want to) until after the season is over (assuming they dn't have a bowl game)

The man is a wizard.
What exactly has pollard done to earn Wizard status? He's fired 3 coaches and replaced them.

Pollard has definitely shown a lot of enthusiasm and has said a lot of great things, but the proof is in the pudding regarding his performance. We won't know if he's a Wizard or a turd for several years.

Compared to BVD, you could be a turd and STILL look like a wizard.

Right now G-Mac, and Sanderson look like great catches. Time will tell.

Don't know how the pros work it for position coaches. Perhaps he has an escape clause should he be hired as a HC written in his contract? Sounds like he has no problem in visiting with Pollard about the possibility.

Looks like Brewster was an assistant head coach in addition to TE coach in '04 and '05 in San Diego.

That's a start in the right direction in my book. I'd still be curious what kind of assistants he has connections with that would come with him.
