Exclamation Tim Brewster As ISU’s Next Head Coach?

Tim Brewster As ISU’s Next Head Coach?
CycloneFanatic.com
Jeremy Lind

I had made reference earlier today to somebody that was the clear front-runner at this time for the Iowa State Head Coaching vacancy. Since that post, I have received more evidence to suggest that the information referred to was correct.

While I won’t say that Tim Brewster, currently the Tight-End Coach for the Denver Broncos, will be ISU’s next Head Coach definitively, I will say that he is looking more and more like the guy that will lead us going forward. Multiple sources have come forward with multiple pieces of information that when put together make this seem like not only a likely prospect, but also the guy.

Right now I would put the top two candidates as Tim Brewster followed by Jim Harbaugh, Head Coach for the University of San Diego. I personally feel that all attempts will be made to secure Brewster first and foremost and then Harbaugh if things look like they would be better off in his hands or if Brewster doesn’t like the offer made to him.

Brewster’s resume looks very impressive and seems to have almost everything ISU needs in a new coach; recruiting experience, a feel for developing players, a strong loyalty and a great passion for skilled position players.

Tim Brewster’s Resume:

Denver Broncos (2005-??) – Tight-Ends Coach
San Diego Chargers (2002-05) – Tight-Ends Coach
Texas (1998-01) – Tight-Ends Coach
North Carolina (1989-97) – Recruiting Coordinator and Special Teams Coach
Central Catholic HS (1987-88) – Head Coach
Purdue (1986) – Tight-Ends & Tackles Coach

Right now nothing is certain but I really think that things are coming together pretty quickly to make sure Iowa State has the best coach for a long time to come. Brewster fits all the qualifications that the Athletic Department is looking for and he will be talking to Jamie Pollard very soon, possibly Friday or this weekend. Brewster is eager to be a Head Coach at a major conference program and his development and recruiting experience makes him a perfect fit for taking ISU to the next level. Most importantly, Tim can recruit just about any player to any place. Recruiting is a passion for him and it’s something he has plenty of experience at.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

How easy is it for a pro asst. to put together a coaching staff? The one thing that I like about hiring a HC from another level is that he has a staff of coaches that he knows and knows how to work with them.

This is all very exciting! I remember being scared that we wern't going to get great recurits with Mcd, among other worries! I was worrying about nothing, obviously! Now with a new coach, we get new blood and hopefully ISU Football will be looking great in the future!

My main reservation from his list of experience is that he hasn't been a coordinator or head coach, so he had better have some solid connections to people who have experience and who have some of that to make up for it.

maybe he'll bring the broncos style of blocking and running to iowa state. I realize that he isn't the one there that is responsible for it but maybe he will have taken some notes about it.

Re: Tim Brewster As ISU’s Next Head Coach?

This is all exciting news - I just hope that we aren't disappointed in the eventual outcome of a hiring.

With all the information I have read, I am really on board if Brewster is the pick - I would just hate to see us get all excited about this guy, only to have it not work out. I trust that Jeremy is confident enough in this information to report it. It would suck to get all excited and have it not come to fruition.

Arrived in STL via Ames, IA & Bloomington, IN!

Re: Tim Brewster As ISU’s Next Head Coach?

What is this guy's style? What is his defensive and offensive strategies? Would he try and retain any of the current staff?

I could go for some more man coverage in the secondary.

The lack of being a coordinator concerns me, but if he is the guy I hope he puts together a solid staff. I would love to have Loney back as Offensive Coordinator, but I doubt that will happen.

I think if Brewster is the man, we will be impressed with his Coordinators..he knows he has limited "play calling" at any level, but he can recruit and get talent. His OC and DC will be huge

I hope this isn't the best we can do. No OC or HC experience has to be a fan's concern. We may have a couple great tightends that get used a lot, but I am hoping for more that Brewster.

While I am sure this guy would be good, there is something about Jim Harbaugh that really excites me. I hope that in the end that Jim is our guy.
