interesting, but not architecturally nice at all, IMO. sketchup does not do the building justice, at the very least. i guess money reasons for using all the corrugated metal... wish they had done something a little more unique to the ISU arena styles established, following what Hilton is and it's permanence in the landscape, and keeping with the sports facilities we already have. this looks too much like a building a national gym chain would come up with and build everywhere.
On a positive note, nice to see the dedication to getting a building like this for the basketball programs. Where in west Ames will this be?

Will the land/building be university owned?

Is this the 'news' someone was referring to a while back?

Mortensen and S. Dakota, there is already construction of a new hotel in the area and there have been rumors of a new bowling alley over that way as well.

Seems like a really strange place for a practice facility, especially considering alot of players don't have cars in Ames... I would rather spend the extra money and have it closer to everything else...

I'm not sure "a lot" of the players don't have cars. When attending a Cap. City league game last year, I watched 3 separate players pull into the parking lot in their own cars.
I'm sure there will be a bus or two designated for this facility. I'd prefer it be connected to Hilton as well for a few reasons, but it sounds like financially this made a ton of sense.

1. Plans are announced for agressive facility needs in FB and BB.
2. Plan is bounced off funding realities.
3. A way is still found to make it happen.
4. Well done.

That said, the rumors surrounding the news were a big donation, like $10 million or more. That would have to be something else as this entire project is only 8...
How great would it be if they found a way to do both?

The ones off campus I would guess already have 'em so they can get onto campus or they use CyRide. Does CyRide go out there?

But it's also nice to just walk over and get some work in too. If this is like the facilities at other schools it will be the player's second home. I can't think of another school that has their practice facility THAT far from their arena and athlete housing. Maybe times have changed, but when I was in school 1999-02, there were very few players with their own cars on campus...
