That's a bad as saying he's not worth it without ever seeing him play.

High school ball in Iowa to D-1 prospects is as much of a cake-walk as middle-school ball.

I love it. McDermott will have us getting all the top talent and will not let them leave the state .... as in Hinrich and Collison.

He is 6'8' and 180 and is supposed to finish around 6'10". Hopefully he can put on 30-40 pounds in the next 3 1/2 years.

Talk to Alford, he just got a commitment from an embryo.

Re: ISU Picks up first 2010 MBB Recruit

I think it is a good risk to take. At the very least, he will be a big body who will be a role player and is an in-state talent which also looks good on a roster (nice to have a couple Iowa boys anyway).

Rock Valley is a perenial 1A power from Northwestern Iowa. Traditionally have strong teams up there. Nice to lock down a great player when they are young. Our best Iowa talent has gone to Kansas in years past ala LaFrentz, Collison, Hinrich, etc.

I wont even be here to see him play and I am only a freshman this year, that says alot. I thought you couldnt even offer a scholarship until junior year or is that just football.

LOL! It is crazy how coaches are getting committs so soon these days...

There are solutions to every problem.

Have you considered switching majors? Co-op? Internship? Study abroad?

LOL!! I am probably going to be here 5 years anyway. I decided that I love Cyclone athletics so much that I should stay an extra year.

Look at it this way. Mac will keep tabs on this kid all through his schooling. He will probably work with his coach to develop his body and skills. that way he will be ready for ISU come gradutaion. He is basically developing talent early. By the time he is old enough, ISU will back to where it belongs and he wont want to go elsewhere. Mac is one sneaky bastard. Remember, he kept tabs on Lucca since the guy was really young before anyone knew he existed. Mac knows what hes doing.

I read that McD's son is on this kids AAU team as well. So, McD has seen this kid play a lot and will continue to watch him grow.

I've never seen the kid play, but a few things to keep in mind. Coaches don't offer scholarships at this age unless they see something special. Due to sheer numbers, there aren't alot of big men to choose from. Therefore, getting an early commit from a young big man that is showing talent is probably well worth the risk.

Early recruiting

My old Iowa State roommate went about 6' 2" 320 or so. 8 years ago his wife gave birth to a 14 POUND baby. I sent Mac an email telling him to open up the recruiting process immediately. The kid is going to be a monster, too bad they live in Iowa City and the youngster has fallen under the spell of the dark side...

It's a bit iffy to predict height based on shoe size. The shortest guy in my brother-in-law's HS class had the biggest feet. Also, there's no guarantee the kid will keep growing. I know a lot of guys didn't grow much after their freshman year. That said, I think he will be ISU's first 8-footer.

And the embryo has already gotten in trouble with the law and served a 1 exhibition game suspension.
