Scales Talks Football

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Iowa State running back Jason Scales met with Big 12 media last week in Kansas City, Mo. Here is a part of what the fifth-year senior, who rushed for 115 yards at Nebraska last season, had to say.

Question: What is the biggest difference between getting ready for your second season under head coach Gene Chizik and last season?

“(Last season) was an opportunity for us all to become comfortable with one another. Obviously, we’re not satisfied by any means with what happened last season. Going 3-9 is not something we wanted to do. We want to build off some of the things that occurred last year and carry some of those positives into this season”

Interview & Full Story

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

We report on Thursday and start practice Friday
best quote in the whole article!!!

We all remember making fun of our little brother. And then that day came when you looked at him and thought "Crap, when did he become taller than me?" There comes a time when you just know your time has passed and it's their spotlight now.

Re: Scales Talks Football

I think many people forget that in the middle part of last season, Scales had some decent days carrying the ball.

31 for 115 against the Huskers, followed by 22 for 82 against Tech, then 19 for 77 against Texas. Didn't do much against OU, but few people do on the ground. He had just 5 carries against Mizzu and A-Rob stole the show - we didn't see Scales after that.

I'd like to see him get about 5-10 carries a game and in games he's on fire - feature the dude. I'm not sure he'll be our feature back this year, but I do believe he can be a nice change up for us.

While he has not had many attempts in his career (99), he does have zero fumbles. I like that.

I love Scales. I hope he gets on the field this year some as a reward of a lot of hard work for the program.

Looking forward to meeting the Bunnies aka Jackrabbits on 28 Aug.

A Chizik is a big fruit that starts to sour your mouth if you do not swallow soon enough.

Not to be a downer but even his best game he only averaged a tad over 4 ypc. The top 12 RB's in the conference last year all averaged over 5.6.

Hence the reason I see him mostly being a change of pace back for us. And a guy that can come in on passing downs and provide some protection for the QB.

Scales has never really been healthy enough to get into any sort of rhythm. With Bass perhaps no longer a Cyclone, he may need to do that. Even if Bass is with us, I'd love for Scales to step it up and give us 3 solid backs that can all make plays for us.

Run the ball effectively and wining often takes care of itself. As of right now, it looks like A-Rob and Scales will be required to carry the load.

I have only talked to Jason once but I really liked him as a person.
He looks the part and he is due for a better year.

Re: Scales Talks Football

Scales has been through a lot and it would have been fun to see him if he was not hurt, unfortunately currently he is not a Big 12 calibar running back. If ISU has to depend on him, look at another 3-9 season. Bass, A-Rod, and Harris should all see playing time ahead of Scales.

Since when did A-Rod not only switch sports, but enroll at ISU?
