Well with Marsden, Hubalek, Thompson, Brackins, Johnson and Johnson in the post next year, we should be fine. And all but Hubalek will be back after that, so just get 1 or 2 for 2008 and we'll be fine.

Guards/Wings in 2008 will be
Juniors - Dunson, Jacobson, W. Johnson(if need be)
Sophmore - Garrett, Steiger, Boozer
Freshman - Buckley, Eikmeier, ?

Pretty thin at guard without Boozer. We would really be depending on Garrett and Steiger to not diappoint or Buckley and Eikmeier to come and play right away.

I wouldn't want to go into '08 with 3 experience scholorship guards (and Brock). As it is, Marsden, Thompson, Brackins, Johnson and Johnson give us a very experienced front court, even if Wesley moves more to the wing, we still have plenty of depth in the front court for 08.

Re: Charles Boozer Says Yes to ISU

Jiri is only a junior so he is not departing.

We will have a senor, a junior, and a freshman who is a top 20 player that are all bigs. That make 3 next year

We also have Cory Johnson and Wesley Johnson who are rebounders.

Gmac's style require guards

Plus, is anybody else a little nervous with Jessan Gray and Jiri departing that we maybe should have used the scholarship for a good, big, juco player. So far, I have no reason to question a coach who is undefeated and has signed a 5 star recruit. However, I'm not anti Coach McD just because I have questioned his last two signees. I don't know.
There was another player no one knew about by the name of Wesley Johnson and I think he is going to be alright. Just a reminder that McD has already found one guy who fell through the cracks.

None of us really know either. We will just have to see how it plays out in a few years. Maybe they will flop, or maybe they will be All Big 12 players, who knows? I think GMac has a knack for finding the right players for his system and bball philosophy and making them excel and shine on the court regardless of their recruiting ranking.

I trust GMac knows what he is doing. I think he is putting together a team of role players where the sum will be better than its parts (not saying the players wont be good, but as a team, they will be excellent). I wouldn't worry.

I can't keep my mouth shut. How can somebody deem a player not "scholarship worthy" without having seen them play? Anyone, Beuller? I have a feeling that the coaches HAVE seen allthese guys play. Just a feeling, I could be wrong. :)

You are wrong. G-Mac's recruiting philosophy is like a night of junior high prank calling.

Open up the phone book, scan the names, pick one at random and dial away.

Until G-Mac starts signing guys that can't play and subsequently runs them off, I will trust his judgement. If he thinks Boozer is a player - that's good enough for me. I suspect other than a rando web clip, none of us has any real insight into Boozer's game. He certainly has the gene pool working for him.

Let's Go State.

Never hurts to add more NBA ties to the team either...

Yes I do want a cookie. It's funny that people who actually know some things behind the scenes on this board have bad rep levels? While people who know nothing and just make funny remarks are way up there.

Send me my Cookie.
You know what's also funny, is that you're the one that was "suggesting" to Jeremy that he shouldn't be saying that certain people are probably coming to ISU to coach, play, etc. Now you want us to give you props because you gave us a head's up about "CB"? Please.

Recruit

Re: Charles Boozer Says Yes to ISU

I'm not saying you can't win with 2 star recruits nobody else has offered, but there must be a lot of koolaid being handed out if I am to believe that all of our "sleeper" picks will turn out to be studs. More then likely, we are a team that did not make the NIT last year and because of it we are struggling to recruit the four and five stars. Again, if we wanted to recruit someone with NBA ties, then sign up Jeffrey Jordan.

Re: Charles Boozer Says Yes to ISU

I understand what you're saying, because it would be nice to be rolling in the highly rated recruits, but we have never done that at ISU even under the best recruiters.

And to assume that McD signed him just because his brother plays in the NBA is insulting to McD, but also to that kid who for all we know could have exactly what McD is looking for. Until he proves us wrong, I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt and let him build his team his way.

Re: Charles Boozer Says Yes to ISU

First I thought no one really cared what the ratings systems really mean. And second wouldn't it be great if 2 star recruits were actually not good enough to even be looked at by ISU?

And as crummy as this one felt, Cyclone fans, it could be a lot worse. You could be a Hawkeye. - Sean Keeler (imagine that, actually quoting Keeler!)

Re: Charles Boozer Says Yes to ISU

If you can bring in two highly regarded recruits like Brackins and Garrett (one front court, one back court) in each class and fill out the class with solid, hard-working roll players, ISU is going to have a great team for years to come. Only teams like Duke and Kansas are able to bring in four or five top recruits every year.
