Crazy like a fox. This is most excellent news.

Just when I was beginning to accept the probability of Harbaugh... I was actually beginning to like the idea after reading a few articles about Harbaugh. Hard worker, great recruiter, but he coaches in the Pioneer League...

Tulsa is 7-3 right now, second in their division. Lost in OT last week. Had 2 OT losses in 2004. I hope he's not McCarneyesque in OT.

I have to agree cyflyer. He may end up at ISU, but day after day, things are slightly changing. Jeremy still thinks it's Harbaugh, but it just SEEMS with recent posts that he's not as sure about that as when he first posted. Same can be said for Chris Williams at CN. Jeremy said tonight that he still thinks it's Harbaugh....unless things don't go as expected. If he was so sure...what can go unexpected at this point? If ISU actually wants him, and he is interested in ISU, what can go wrong?

Harbaugh would be my choice. I want a firey coach. Someone to bring some spark to this program, and have the opprotunity to prove himself. I see this guy as the Tim Floyd of football for us. Lets just hope he is successful like floyd was.

How is Brewster for excitment. Is he more of a conservated play caller, or would he go for on 4 and 2.

Could this be a clue as to our future coach that is so obvious that we've failed to recognize it?

Definition of a hurricane-a violent, tropical, cyclonic storm of the western North Atlantic, having wind speeds of or in excess of 72 mph.

Is it mere coincidence that Kragthorpe coaches for the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes?

There's a storm brewin', and it's named Cyclone Gene.

That might be thinking too much into it, but interesting.

Makes you ponder huh?

It's not that I'm any less certain, I'm just trying to be more careful on how I word things. In my opinion that probability of Harbaugh is as high as ever, probably even higher since he's still talking to JP and they haven't parted ways. To me that means that there are some common ideas on compensations, expectations, etc.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

I'd love to see Harbaugh, and what kind of staff he could put together with NFL connections. I think he will create national attention and open doors all over the place. From what I have heard of his personality, an open door might be all he needs to land some big time recruits. Kids want to play for guys who know what it takes to make it to the next level. I'm sure none of the kids have ever seen him play, but he was one tough quarterback and a leader. I think he grew into that under Ditka.

If nobody takes a shot at Harbaugh because he coaches in the Pioneer League then he is destined to be at San Diego forever........ Thats not going to happen. ISU should give him the opportunity.

Come on Jimbo, be a Cyclone!!

Problem with Brewster is he has never had to make a play call decision. He has never coached anything other than the tight end position. Never been a coordinator, never a head coach.

To me a guy who has been head coach even at smaller school, like Harbaugh is much more appealing than Brewster. To many unknowns. I am excited about Harbaugh. I could get excited about Kragthorpe. Brewster and Kelly don't do much for me.

My guess, based on the GMac hire, Kelly is the man. Harbaugh is the smokescreen. Fan base will be initially disappointed, but will come around as soon as he starts winning.

Re: CycloneNotables: Coaching Search Update - 11/17

Another thread earlier today was discussing the BB search and its relation to FB so I've been thinking all day about who is the smokescreen, who is the real candidate. If I remember the BB search, Mcd was at first a strong candidate but fans kind of thought "nah not him" and even connected him to possible Iowa opening. When the FB search first started Kragthorpe was a top 4-6 candidate, then he was connected to UNC, then rumored no interest. Now his is listed as a possible after Harbaugh has been all the talk, similar to Jeter. Kragthorpe is the smart choice just like Mcd. Proven, fairly hot commodity, also has the pedigree, just not as flashy as Harbaugh. I'm still very intrigued by Harbaugh but it will probably come down to who JP thinks will be a longer term solution for ISU. I don't know if Kragthorpe is like Mcd in that dept.

Good analysis. In my mind, Harbaugh definitely has the bigger upside, but Kragthorpe is solid and probably safer. I only hope that we are as happy with whoever we get in FB as we have been with McD up to this point (halftime adjustments, coaching, and discipline).

I would favor Harbaugh or Brewster over Kelly or Kragthorpe. Not that impressesd with Cerntral Michigan or Tulsa compared to progrsam ast SDS. I know they are different levels of football, but I see the first two as Tier One and thje latter two as Tier Two. Going into the Big 12, I would thinl Tier One group would open more recruiting doors and that is the hard part for Ames. Maybe we can then go after Jordan Burnstine?

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.
