Pollard and McDermott Lend a Hand

AMES, Iowa – Moving into the dorms can be a scary and nerve-wracking experience for a freshman. Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard and head men’s basketball coach Greg McDermott did their best to help ease the stress by greeting students on move-in day this afternoon.

Pollard and McDermott visited Willow and Larch Halls, handing out candy and welcoming the students to Iowa State. This is the third year in a row where Pollard has greeted students on their first day on campus.

Ha nice!!!

Whens the last time that members of the athletic department at another instate school visited the dorms? Never, probably get too freaked out what they'd find, or wouldnt.

Ok, I'm pissed. I was in the area from 8-2 helping move freshman in and I don't recall seeing either, and McDermott sticks out a little...

I don't know if I like that McDermott has resorted to going into the dorms of incoming freshmen in order to scout walk-ons. One would think there is a more effective way of doing that.

Wait, what? How did you pull that one?

Is it me or does Pollard look a little like he could be moving into the dorms?

I remember seeing an article about them doing this last year. I still maintain that Pollard brought McDermott along for intimidation.

Pollard: Hello, welcome to ISU, I'm director of athletics, and this is one of our basketball coaches, Greg McDermott.

McD: BUY TICKETS OR ELSE.

Incoming freshman:

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

This is Cyclone Football.

That would have been cool. I lived top floor of Larch for my first year and a half from '99-'01. I wouldn't have minded Greg or Jamie lending me a hand getting our air hockey table crammed into our room.

The room I had in Larch was Marcus Fizer's room the couple years before until he moved off campus. I didn't know it for a while that his first name was Darnell. My roommate and I were getting pretty tired of telling all these people that would call our room, "no, there isn't any Darnell Visor that lives here!!!" Turns out, they were asking for Marcus. Hollywood was pretty cool though because he would come up a lot and hang out with everyone from the floor.

Ha, good to see the Cessna house elevator is still painted like it was when I lived there. A good friend of mine came up with the design.
