Cyclone Football Team to Play in Kansas City

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University announced today that it has reached an agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas State University to play its football games against the Wildcats in 2009 and 2010 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

“We are very excited to provide our players an opportunity to play two football games in a National Football League stadium,” head coach Gene Chizik said. “Arrowhead Stadium is one of the most historic facilities in the NFL and our student-athletes will remember the experience forever.”

The Big 12 match-ups between the Cyclones and Wildcats will take place on Oct. 3, 2009, (Iowa State as the home team) and Oct. 9, 2010 (Kansas State as the home team).

“Kansas City is clearly a home away from home for Iowa State fans,” ISU Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said of the site, which is less than a half-day’s drive from campus. “So many people have shared with me how much they enjoy a weekend of Cyclone athletics in Kansas City. We fully expect a large contingent of fans traveling down I-35 and we plan to host a significant pep rally in conjunction with the Iowa State University Alumni Association both years.”

Tickets for the 2009 game will initially be made available, as a voluntary check-off, to all Iowa State, Kansas State and Chiefs’ season ticket holders. Tickets for the general public will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis later in the spring through the Iowa State Athletics Ticket Office, Arrowhead Stadium Box Office and online at cyclones.com or www.kcchiefs.com.
