Personally, I believe this is a great hire for ISU and Pollard. Brian Kelly has been my choice since the beginning. The next 3-4 years will tell the whole story, but I am much more excited about Kelly than Harbaugh or Norvell.

if anyone is interested CMU is leading Buffalo 34-7 pretty early in the 2nd Quarter. Do they run a spread offense?

Arrived in STL via Ames, IA & Bloomington, IN!

Please explain why. I am interested to hear your thoughts.

yes, cmu runs a spread. i think kelly's offense will work w/ our returning personnel, and i think his resume speaks for itself. i truly think this is a great hire as we are going to get a great coach with a knack for overachieving for a good price. the only question on kelly that i have is his recruiting.

While I don't question his resume, the recruiting is what worries me. Though when i think about it, it can't get any worse then Dmacs!!

Recruiting was the big hang-up that many had with G-Mac and he's done quite well so far.

I have no idea of Kelly would have the same success, but we can at least give him a chance.

Re: Brian Kelly – A Coach First, Salesman Second

Harbaugh-- I believe he would have done OK for ISU, but if he was our hire and did well, the maize and blue would be calling from the nort. I think it would be difficult for him to turn down his alma mater.

Norvell -- Jay Norvell has the credentials but no head coaching experience. I think for the situation that ISU is in, a person such as Kelly with head coaching experience can take the team by the horns without as many distractions.

Brian Kelly -- His resume seems strong, took over a struggling cmu team and has had success, proved that he could win at the d2 level, ( must have good x and o philosophy ). Can he recruit? A lot will depend on the assistant coaches that he can hire and if he can sell ISU. Pollard must think he can, I will go along with that.

I look at Kelly and see status quo here. He is not going to make a splash, excite the base or take us to the next level. I think that we are sending a signal to the average fan that at Iowa State all we can get as a coach is someone no one has heard of before.

Re: Brian Kelly – A Coach First, Salesman Second

You've got to be kidding me...how do we get excited about Brian Kelly? If you put his credentials next to McCarney, most would take McCarney. I wanted Harbaugh to bring national attention and respect to the program. Norm Chow would be a great choice, Bo also, but Kelly? Central Michigan to ISU is not my idea of a big name. Let's tell it like it is here. I extreemly disappointed if this is our choice.

I, for one, think hiring an experience D1 head coach is a smart move. I feel exactly the same way as when GMac was hired - not a sexy, exciting move. But GMac has won me over and hopefully Kelly can too. I hope he can blaze a trail recruiting once he gets here and solidify our existing recruits as well as bring some more quality guys on board. If he's familiar with the quality JUCO teams/players, that may help right off the bat...
I'm behind you Coach Kelly and I hope the rest of Cyclone Country does as well...

And I guess that's your choice to feel disappointed, but 'Clones Fan, I don't think that's what JP is doing or was trying to do with this hire... besides, would MSU have been sending out that signal to the average fan if they had hired him?

Put Dan McCarney in Kelly's shoes... How do you think DMac would have done at CMU? Well, chances are pretty good, that's what we'd be getting. (However, with a name like "Brian" you can't go too wrong.) ;o)

Looks like Coach Kelly is being recognized for his success at CMU.
