I agree with Clones Fan on this one...he has some great insight on the problems with hiring BK. How can anyone call this an upgrade from Mac. I was for a change...now I'm not so sure. Harbaugh seemed like a slam dunk.

I'm sure he's a good coach. BUT -- The popular belief was that McCarney was out because he couldn't bring in any more money or sell any more tickets after this disaster of a year. SO, of course Kelly would be able to do that -- Oh wait, NO. This hire won't even make news outside of Iowa. If Pollard makes this hire, he is one definate walking contradiction. And I don't give a **** about GMAC. This isn't basketball. Completely different story. The basketball and football programs are/were at different crossraods. The basketball program needed order and a leader. The football team already had that and just needed the next big step.
This hire sucks. Sorry, I don't care about his record at Central Michigan. That just makes him respectable. What does he really have to offer?

I'll agree that this is a bit different than basketball... especially considering the fact that UNI already had national recognition cuase they went to the NCAA tournament a few times. This is aside from the fact that I believe they were in the top 25 at one point as well.

Drake would be a step up for Harbaugh. Don't make me laugh anymore with the Harbaugh BS.

Also true... a lot of the Harbaugh hype was sort of manufactured here, so... who knows.

I am a multiple season ticket buyer and a moderate contributor. I was looking at upping my contribution dramatically with a Harbaugh hire. Kelly does not get me excited at all. I feel like someone kicked me in the stomach.

We don't know who our next coach is yet. We can debate Kelly all we want at this point just like we did with Brewster and Harbaugh, but the fact is nobody knows for sure. Indications do point to the fact that somebody is a shoe-in and all thats left is timing of an announcement.

Harbaugh BS? Have we ever had a hire that made national news? That gets on ESPN. Kelly makes me yawn and continue to focus on the basketball season.

To say the Harbaugh interest was generated here is a crock. Would Pollard interview a coach because of a blog site? Would Sporting News call him a contender because of a blog? Would his agent call a press conference if he had not be led to believe there was real interest? I think what you saw with people feeling excited about a potential hire for the Cyclones job. I know I was. Someone from Central Michigan doesn't get me ready to get out my checkbook, up my donation and buy more tickets. Harbaugh did.

If you are a top HS football player and Jim Harbaugh asks you to come play for him and something called Brian Kelly asks you to play for him, you choose Harbaugh everytime. I wouldnt......I would go with a man who has proven himself as a winner on the field and has proven he can develop players beore someone who only has 3 years of 1AA eveperience!

[quote=Enginerd;47625][quote=JokersWild;47620]Yeah, I still say Harbaugh is at least AS qualified if not more so then then Kelly.
I would love to here your reasoning. Don't leave out the part about years of coaching experience and which one coached against all either NAIA, DII, or non-scholarship schools. I count playing at a big time program and playing in the NFL as qualifications. So, Kelly has more coaching experience, but Harbaugh has coaching experience PLUS NFL and name recognition. But, it doesn't matter anyway since Harbaugh is off the list. Crud. Ah well. Go Clones!

Today, still wanted by BCS teams, he survives as a coach of fortune. If you have a problem - if no one else can help - and if you can find him- maybe you can hire: Gene Chizik.

In my opinion, hiring Brian Kelly says that we are content with where we are as a program. While, obviously, Kelly has much more experience, if he was so good, he would have advanced further than he has in his 10 plus years of coaching.
In addition to coaching at San Diego, Harbaugh has some 15 years experience as an NFL PLAYER. If this doesnt give someone football credibility, I would ask, what does?
Someone will give Harbaugh a chance, he is on the fast track to a big time job, who will give him that chance? He may fall flat on his face somewhere, but I would guess that he would at least maintain status quo here if not win and then bolt to a Michgan.

Deace is over at CycloneNation having an orgasm over Kelly right now -- That makes me disagree with the hire even more.
