Re: ISU To Announce New Football Coach

Price went 5-7 at UTEP, lost to Memphis last night and fan base in El Paso not happy. He just moved his daughter to El paso and has 2 sons on staff. he has a Bobby Bowden deal brewing with one son as asst. That son has been mentioned for the North texas job. One has to wonder what if any interest he had or has in ISU job.
I didn't know he interviewed but wouldn't be surprised. El Paso sports writer says Price is happy where he is at??

I really think JP knows that Pelini would stir a lot more excitement than Price and Kelly. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Does anyone truly think that Pollard gives two squirts that our coaching hire would stir a lot of excitement? If this is what he's basing his hire on, we're all in big, big trouble.

Very true, if Pollard wants a guy with Texas connections, he may as well go with Price. Pelini is a HUGE stretch.

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

This is Cyclone Football.

I think you're correct. JP knows that he has to pick a coach that has the best chance of winning. A popularity opinion is only going to mean so much if the coach doesn't have success in the win loss column.

There's a storm brewin', and it's named Cyclone Gene.

After Googling Pelini's bio I see that he spent 3 seasons with the Packers under Mike Sherman. That is maybe were the past Sherman rumors came from. Maybe Jamie did meet with Sherman only to discuss Pelini.
I also didn't know that Pelini spend 1991 as a grad assistant at where else?......UEI. Other than that minor flaw, this, if true, is a great hire for us!!!!!

Iowa State to introduce football coach Monday in Ames

Iowa State has called a press conference for 6 p.m. on Monday to introduce its new football coach, university officials announced this afternoon.

The event at Hilton Coliseum will be open to the public, with doors opening at 5:15 p.m. Parking is available in lots surrounding Hilton at no charge.

Iowa State conducted known interviews with San Diego coach Jim Harbaugh and Nebraska offensive coordinator Jay Norvell — but those coaches previously had been told they no longer were being considered.

Cyclone officials also asked for permission to talk about the job with Central Michigan coach Brian Kelly, as reported first on DesMoinesRegister.com on Saturday.

No other official candidates have been confirmed during the search.

LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini, whose name has been unofficially thrown around during the search, ended that speculation this afternoon.

"That's interesting," Pelini told The Des Moines Register when asked about Monday's scheduled press conference, "considering I haven't even talked to anybody from Iowa State."

Check back to DesMoinesRegister.com for updates as they become available and read complete coverage in Monday and Tuesday newspapers.

Re: ISU To Announce New Football Coach

IMO I still think Price would be a good hire and fit-Coach of the year in Pac -10 at Washington State isn't all bad. Texas connections now and a decent staff. UTEP has respectablity again and he doesn't need the money.

Re: ISU To Announce New Football Coach

I doubt its Kelly, just cause Central would not let him announce anywhere till Dec. 1st after the MAC championship. If its Pelini he will be good, I know he was still in the running at MSU, but the kinda backed off, with some of his baggage, but I still think he`s a good coach.

Re: ISU To Announce New Football Coach

One positive from this coaching search is witnessing how irrelevant the Des Moines Register has become. Good job JP. Don't give them anything.

FYI Des Moines Register staff writers. Pay back is hell. Maybe you can send out old Whity to investigate why you couldn't get one relevant lead during this entire coaching search. Maybe one day, before you go bankrupt, you'll figure out that giving some positive coverage to ISU could actually benefit your subscription base.
