Re: Iowa State Set To Introduce Brian Kelly Monday Evening

Are some of you not even going to give Kelly a chance to succeed??!? Let's see what kind of staff he assembles, how he finishes this (poorly started) recruiting class and runs spring practice before we cast our doubts about his abilities. I bet those who questioned the Tressel hire at Ohio St. a few years back are eating a healthy dose of crow right about now...

I'll give him a chance, but I am not at all excited.

im glad everyone has opinions and are able to statte them freely on this site, but i wish that more would respect the men in the decision making process to know maybe just maybe a little more about what it takes to run a d1 program then your average everyday fan.

SAD state of affairs when you can't express your opinion fairly.

Re: Iowa State Set To Introduce Brian Kelly Monday Evening

You can express your opinion. But when you claim to be #1 fan and then say you go into each season expecting the worst....don't be surprise when people give you a negative.

There are plenty of people who express contrary opinions on here and have a very high rep. If you don't like it state your case and lets debate it. The people who lay out their case don't usually get dinged by others. I for one enjoy debating the merits of an issue with people on this board and have given more positive feedback to people I disagree with who make a good case than people that I agree with.

I can't see how we can do any worse than what was accomplished this year. The upside is the unknown.

Re: Iowa State Set To Introduce Brian Kelly Monday Evening

At Grand Valley State he wins 2 National titles and sets all-time Div II scoring record at 58 points per game.
At Central Michigan he takes over a losing program, whose football spending is in the bottom 1/3 of the league and takes them to the league championship game in 3 years.
Sounds to me like he can either:
1. Coach
2. Recruit
3. Or Both

Re: Iowa State Set To Introduce Brian Kelly Monday Evening

I'm not excited about this either but I've got faith that Pollard wouldn't settle for average. It's disappointing that after the strides this program has had over the last 8 years or so (ex 2003 and 2006), we can't get someone with some significant success at a bigger program....whether it was as a head coach or a coordinator. I have a difficult time believing that this was our #1 guy all along. His record is fine but considering his competition, it should be.

But, I will support him. Pollard knows where we need to be and sees something we don't. He knows ISU needs a great program. He knows ISU fans need a great program. I hope Kelly's another Jim Tressel. I hope he plays to win instead of playing not to lose. I hope to be at our first January bowl in a couple of years. I hope to be at a BCS game soon as well. I hope Pollard is right.

GO CLONES.

Re: Iowa State Set To Introduce Brian Kelly Monday Evening

JCloned....the point I was trying to make after following Cyclone football for 20 years is that I have grown tired of getting kicked in the balls so many times when expectations were high. I'm growing older and I find it much less stressful to expect the worst (but of course hope for the best). You leave the game in much better spirits after a win (or a loss for that matter).

ISU is not an easy place to coach. I was for change. McCarney paid his due and was a good man, but it was time to move on. IF Kelly is "the man", he will have my support the same as Duncan, Criner, Walden, and Mac, BUT let's see the product on the field before we all consider him the 2nd coming of Jim Tressell.

I am no less a Cyclone fan than you are. People are programmed differently in how they approach life. What keeps me sane is the way I set my expectations...fair and simple

My balls are black and blue as well, I was just hoping for someone that made me excited before they even got here.

I'm satisfied with the hire...not thrilled but happy.

If we pay him more than $1 million, I will be upset. I'm guessing $750k or somewhere around there.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned or even thought of this yet, but why would JP say he'd pay up to 1.75M if he could get the right guy, then make the hire stating he got his #1 choice, only to pay him .75-1.0M?

Presumably, the right guy would be your #1 choice...so why would you get a guy for half of what you're willing to pay? Seems to me that if the new coach is indeed Kelly, then either Kelly is a sh!tty negotiator or JP is spinning the new hire a little too much...

I'm not sure I stated that in the most clear and concise way, but does anyone see where I'm going with this?
