Exclamation CR, CN, CF, ESPN All Wrong - Gene Chizik Next Head Coach

Well, JP does it again. Gene Chizik to be next Head Coach.

From CR guessing Pelini and then Kelly, CN saying Kelly, ESPN saying Kelly and myself saying Kelly, JP instead goes with Gene Chizik, assistant at Texas.

Look for more as the day goes on. It appears absolutely nobody got it right once again, myself included. Way to go Jamie!

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Re: Live Updates On Coaching Search

Does that mean he will not be our next head coach? It appears that way to me...why would he be calling a press conference if he WAS going to be named head coach?

It's someone else.

Re: Live Updates On Coaching Search

We will have to wait and see what he said...... It should be a good indication for ISU then.

This is hard to take! All the waiting!!!

Re: Live Updates On Coaching Search

The press conference is regarding the MAC Championship game. See bottom of article. I would expect him to dodge all questions in regards to ISU unless he wants to remove the rumors by stating he is not taking the job.

Question Re: Live Updates On Coaching Search

CyFlyer, thanks for the link. I especially like this quote attributed to Dad

"Brian has always wanted to win a (Division I) national championship since he's done it in Division II,"

That suggests the long term goal and all the necessary incremental decisions.

Why not us?

Re: Live Updates On Coaching Search

FYI ... On Detroit Sports Talk this morning, they said Kelley is being considered for the ISU job, but has a morning press conference (already known) and WILL be attending the teams practice at 3:15 EST. If a jet is waiting it could happen, but boy is that a tight schedule! Keep in mind a chartered private aircraft can probably make that flight in 1.5 hours ...

Hmmmm .... the plot thickens.

BTW ... I've read a lot of questions regarding this guy on the site ... by all local accounts he's a freaking stud coach that is a proven winner. Iowans might not know him, because he's a Michigan coach, but the guy has never lost in his life at any thing. His offensive strategy is fantastic too.

If it's not Kelly, then this is the greatest kept secret in the history of ISU sports. I trust our AD to hire who he thinks is best. I'm guessing Chizek but but at this point I think I'll just wait and see. What a long day.

Re: Live Updates On Coaching Search

If Kelly that is a heck of a schedule to keep. I would assume the practice would be around 2 hours long and if not he's doing a lot of running around with his family.

I won't be surprised if Kelly, but that is becoming very possible.

My wild and uneducated guess is it will be Patterson

I get this from Pollard's comment of the "#1 guy all along," and I cannot see that being Kelly. Also, the comment of about no one picking up on it in the media.

Any guy he chooses is the number one guy all along. Thats because, it was the guy they wanted, a guy they could work out a contract, a guy that was a available. That would be your number one guy.
