Re: After The Announcement Analysis – Chizik & Pollard

This is light years better than Kelly. Almost titilating.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

Re: After The Announcement Analysis – Chizik & Pollard

I'm not comparing Duncan to Chizak. Back in those days we didn't have a visionary AD like Pollard. They thought you merely hired an Assistant from the top Program in the land and it was that easy. When Duncan applied we had many better candidates that we passed over but we all got taken in by the "Oklahoma factor". I don't think this is the case.

In fact most of us didn't think that Chizak would be interested and to be honest, I didn't really check him out as he didn't seem to be a potential candidate. All in all, I think we had a lot of EXCELLENT candidates apply for the HC job at our "Coaching Graveyard". I'm very impressed with Chizak's resume and I think equally impressive is our commitment to Assistant's Salaries which should enable him to assemble a quality staff.

Sorry about that, I misunderstood the comparison earlier. I agree with you that to a lot of people it's enough to just get an employee of a successful business, JP understands you have to find the one that has all of the traits of the next big guy.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Re: After The Announcement Analysis – Chizik & Pollard

Great post Jeremy. Anyone in Cyclone Nation who is still pessimistic and doubting the hire seriously needs their brain tissue examined. Just listening to Chizik's speech I could tell he is the real deal and kept thinking what an amazing hire Pollard got for ISU. It is incredible how one man, Pollard, can change the entire landscape of ISU athletics in roughly a year. He's a true visionary.

In addition to the changes made in coaching staffs in the big 3 sports (FB, MBB, wrestin'), ISU also has a very proud women's b-ball program over the last decade, and is quietly getting better at a few non-revenue sports like gymnastics and volleyball. This are other examples of what Cyclone Nation can embrace. If ISU keeps improving in v-ball, I could potentially see attendances to those games be consistently be in the 1k-2k range.

Does anyone think Jamie has visions of bringing baseball back?

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

Re: After The Announcement Analysis – Chizik & Pollard

I don't know anything more than anybody else about baseball but I know it's been said before that he wants it back in around 5 years. Football has to be successful to realistically be able to have other non-revenue sports have a chance. If FB can draw a crowd and win some games, baseball will be back in my opinion. I do think that JP would seriously think about a new stadium location if it was brought back. It's too hidden and out of the way of the casual father-son right now. If it were higher profile it would probably have a good chance when it comes back. Baseball is a sport in college that really is out of sight, out of mind. You aren't going to hear much about it so you need to have a visible location that reminds people it's there.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

I would not be surprised to see baseball in the longe range plans. IF and I mean IF these three coaches pan out according to reputation and the wow factor, Jamie Pollard will be the next guy we need to worry about leaving. He could write a book and actually sell it about conducting coaching searches and keeping them secret. I feel like he will want to be there to see the dream materialize though.

Re: After The Announcement Analysis – Chizik & Pollard

JP just bought a new house and has plans for a while at least in Ames. I don't expect him around fifteen years from now but I think his future depends largely on what happens in MBB and FB in the next four to five years. He already could get a good program calling but to get to the level I think he wants to get to, he needs ISU as much as we need him. My own personal guess would be he'll be here for five to seven years. Just guessing from everything we know about him, his values, his family and his goals.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

I would think baseball by 2010.

Re: After The Announcement Analysis – Chizik & Pollard

I thought both Pellini and Chizik were out of our league initially and had my mind set on "settling" for Kelly. I am pumped that we got him and will have no problem opening up the checkbook again to support this hire and continue to build this program.

Keep in mind though that a new system in football takes time to implement. We will probably not be competing for the Big 12 North title next year, but be patient. He has the ties and has experience with winning BCS programs and he will get it done.

Re: After The Announcement Analysis – Chizik & Pollard

If I'm not mistaken, Pollard drew out plans for the baseball and tennis teams to be reinstated, and had a specific timetable. I can't quite recall what the timetable was, but I know that was in his "Taking the Next Big Step" press release.

I think it is really good news that we have the "tough" schedule for his first year as he implements the system. Then by year 3 we have a system in place with the easier schedule (yes I realize we have the "easy" schedule in year 2 also, but by year 3 we should be making noise).

Re: After The Announcement Analysis – Chizik & Pollard

I liked the schedule this year and next year. like tough football but want to see a team compete. alot to work on for the new coach. not impossible only improbable.

things that need to change. beat Iowa, beat Nebraska and whoop the $%#@ out of UNI
never lose to Kansas and Baylor again.

pack the jack. Nebraska despite population has packed there stadium so much its not funny.

dont know what ticket sales were for final ISU game but if the attendance was indicative it was **** poor. even if people didnt want to go support the U for the next coach.
