Cyclone Roundup/Notables - 12/01/06

Well it's been a pretty quiet couple of days after the coaching announcement and debate that quickly followed. Here are a few things that are either new or going under the radar a bit... - Iowa State is a somewhat surprising 6-1 with almost a completely new cast. While the competition hasn't been stellar, ISU has looked good at times and shown a desire to overachieve. There will be disappointments but a few surprises will sneak in as well.
- Iowa is off to their worst start since 1973 after falling to 2-4 on Wednesday night to Virginia Tech.
- Minnesota's Men's Basketball Head Coach Dan Monson resigned today to the tune of $1.3 million. Minnesota has lost it's past 5 games, their worst losing streak in 40 years.
- Ohio State lost on Wednesday night, dashing our chances of beating an undefeated number one team in a couple of weeks:)
- In one of the most hyped meetings in years, Iowa will host Iowa State in Wrestling on Sunday. Attendance is expected to top 10,000 for the match!
- Incoming ISU Football Head Coach Gene Chizik is currently conducting the first round of interviews of candidates to fill out his new staff. Few, if any, current assistants are projected to be kept on board. The only name I've heard rumors of revolve around Alford, the best recruiter of the outgoing staff.
- Texas backup QB Jevan Snead is rumored to be transferring in January. Snead was highly recruited out of high school but the schools on his short list are not publicly known at this time.
- According to individuals close to Dan McCarney, several schools have started to send out "feelers" to judge the level of interest he may have in them. So far FIU would be the most likely school of choice for a Head Coaching position but other schools have also started to make some initial contact. I'm told that several schools have also started to evaluate the possibility of a high-level assistant or coordinator position for Mac if he were interested in a somewhat lesser role for a couple of years.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. |

If so, can't imagine Mac jumping on that. Any more about Stanford potentially firing Harris? As good as Mac is, the PAC-10 might be a leap for him...

What do you mean Iowa is off to their worst start since 1973? I think it's their best start. I just look at things a little differently, that's all.

Please try to keep us updated with McCarney news. This is great information. I would love to see him as a coordinator for a top team in college. Is there any chance he would move to the NFL as a coordinator or a position coach?

I love watching the Hawks lose, but I don't want them to have too bad of a season because I just love that Alford fella! I would never want to see him leave Iowa!!! he he

And as crummy as this one felt, Cyclone fans, it could be a lot worse. You could be a Hawkeye. - Sean Keeler (imagine that, actually quoting Keeler!)

So if that QB transfers here what are the rules if a player transfers in the same conference do they have to sit out longer?

I thought I heard once that if they transfer within the conference, they are unable to get a scholarship. Not sure if that is correct or not....
