ISU Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

I wanted to devote a thread to the new ISU Men's Basketball Coaching staff. A lot has been said about if Morgan should have been canned, if GMac could recruit, etc and I think it's time to say thank you to the new staff for the amazing work they've done so far.

Without even stepping onto the court for a single game, ISU is being looked at nationally in a way that has never happened before. Not only are we starting to have the media say nice things about us daily, but we are also having a massive influx of recruiting interest by top players.

I have always been one of those people that love college basketball more than anything else. I have always enjoyed ISU games, even if they were disappointing losses. There has always been something magical about the experience of going to a home game, regardless of the opponent or final score. The people are great, the atmosphere is tops, and the teams try harder than any other team out there.

Over the past three years, I have been disappointed personally in how I saw things work on and off the basketball court. Those are my personal feelings though and I know many people enjoyed Morgan and his style, I however did not. It's time we look past these feelings though and realize the position we are in going forward. We are starting over as if we have never had a bad moment, scandal, or losing season.

Iowa State started the spring with a huge black eye and yet we were able to bring in a head coach that believes in our school, fans, and program more than anybody else in the country. He believes not only that we can succeed, but that we can succeed at a level much higher than many of us would have ever imagined. GMac know's there are hurdles, but he has given the program more energy and life than we've ever had before.

Greg not only accepted the job at Iowa State, he accepted the responsibility of bringing Hilton Magic back, of bring banners to the rafters, and of making every single one of us proud to wear the (not-so) cardinal and gold. We are entering not only a new season, but a whole new era of success at Iowa State. I'm not trying to sell the program, I'm trying my hardest not to buy the whole damn thing myself:)

Along with Greg came the best collection of assistant coaches that we have ever seen at Iowa State. Not only are the assistants energetic and excited about the future, they believe and buy into everything that Iowa State stands for. They understand that we have the best fan-base in America and that we are ready to take the program to the next level on a consistent basis. They are working their rears off day and night to bring us the absolute best basketball program possible. It's time we stand together and give them our all in return.

I know there will be ups and downs this coming season, the coaches know that, and the players know that. What is certain is that we are already light years ahead of where anybody would have expected us to be at this time. We have a great head coach, amazing young assistants, and an energized base that is ready to tear the roof off of Hilton Coliseum come November. Pick up your excuses for the past few years, throw away your concerns about recruiting, and step up to the moment and be the best Cyclone you can be. Support our coaches, players, and programs to the best of your ability.

Thank you,
Jeremy

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

I do get the impression that the coaches are working their ***** off like they've got something major to prove. Should be fun for us as fans to watch this program develop under their diligence.

Perfect Post.

I for one will NOT be suprised if this revamped ISU team makes some noise next year. I look at this roster and see very good things to come in next year's season. I predict this team gels very early in the season. With that being said, I think the only hiccups will be on the road. Look for a lengthy winning streak at a consistantly filled Hilton.

I am with you 100% Jeremy. I am ecspecially impressed by Otzelberger (sp?). His recruiting has amazed me. I was not worried about McD's recruiting in the first place but i didnt expect such a pleasent surprise (1 possibly 2 top 75 recruits) so soon! There isnt a better time to be a cyclone!

I live in Iowa City. Yesterday, my little sister (who was wearing the Cyclones shirt I gave her) was walking around town and kept getting harrassed by Hawk fans. Most of them apparently expressed distaste for her attire, but most of them made grudgingly jealous comments about McDermott.

I tried it out myself today at a Hy-Vee nearby. Yup! I kept getting guilty glances from Hawkeyes, but when I started a conversation with one guy, he eventually turned it to McDermott, Sanderson, and Pollard. He said something about how we're lucky to get an AD that doesn't sleep and thinks at 100 miles an hour. He said that LOTS of Hawk fans are really jealous that Pollard was able to get McDermott so quickly.

Made my day...

An actual hawk fan said that???!!! WOW. I would have expected "We never wanted GMAC in the first place. The only reason your AD is so good is because hes from the big ten." Stuff like that. I've gotten both those coments walking the streets of Cedar Rapids

I'm also extremely impressed with what this coaching staff has done in a short period of time. I feel getting a committment like Brackens this early will lead to other big recruits coming our way. This is a exciting time to be a CYCLONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers to the coaching staff!

I also think we're going to do well in B-ball (and football too). Not only will our coach not accept losing... but with McIntosh as floor general... and Clark as team general... those two seem to have enough heart to motivate the whole team. They are dedicated to hard work and winning. So I think I'll at least dedicate myself to easy work and standing and cheering really loud as usual!
