Wayne Bolt

I recently found out that our new DC Wayne Bolt was fired from his last coaching stint at UAB last Thursday. Kind of concerns me that we just hired a guy who was just fired. Although I think Chizik will most likely run the defense himself. Any thoughts, more info on Bolt?

Sorry for the double responce, personaly when I look at the situation it was that he was the victim of the circumstances at UAB more than anything.

This seems to be a common thought on this board, and personally I think it's not going to be the case. One of Pollard's favorite things about Gene was that his approach to the Head Coaching position was that of a CEO. That was the case of both his mentor Mack Brown, and Tubberville.

I don't expect GC to be the defensive coordinator like many here do. I expect him to be the Head Coach.

With the list on cyclones.com still containing McGettigan, can we assume that he's being retained as the strength and conditioning coach?

I agree 100%. I know Gene has his thoughts, but that isnt his domain anymore. He is no longer a DC, so he is not doing the coaching.

That's one thing that always bugged me when Hawks call Ferentz the best OL coach in the country. He may at one time have been an excellent offensive line coach; however, if he isn't even an offensive line coach at all now, how can he be the best? Notice after several years of great o-lines at Iowa, they lose the O-line coach and haven't had a great o-line since. They certainly have some talent in the way of recruits on the o-line, so may be coming back, but the real o-line coach during there good o-line years didn't get enough credit.

Both coordinators sound good to me. It's really hard to tell a ton about a coach just by stats and records.

If Chizik was going to be controlling the defense like a lot of people seem to expect, then he would just be the Head Coach/DC. He probably wanted someone used to the style of defense he likes to play, but he's going to have to let the guy be the coordinator, without Chizik looking over his shoulder every play.

And if we're spending a lot of money on assistants, I want someone functional, not just a figurehead while Chizik runs the D.

This from the Ames Trib...
Didn't say anything about the strength coaches staying or leaving.
(But all other assistants are relieved of duties)

Surely not the overall strength coach that is known nationally...
