ISU's New Defensive Coordinator - Wayne Bolt

Appears we may have a new DC, Wayne Bolt from UAB.

Scroll down to see the list of Football staff members.

What do we know about him? Who is Robert McFarland? Where is he from?

Looks like he was recently fired at UAB.

My bad, the article is indeed from 2005.

Re: ISU's New Defensive Coordinator

You beat me to it 22! People seem to be down about this hire. I'm hearing some good things about him. Apparently he's taken his hiatus time as an opportunity to lose weight and get in better shape, which was something holding him back at UAB.

He was an all-american o-lineman at East Carolina, and coached the 4th best defense in the nation at Troy State in 2002. Anybody who has both o-line experience and defensive experience is ok in my book.

That article is from Dec. 15, 2005. So it looks like he had a year off?

I wasn't nearly as interested in the DC hire as I am the OC and all the other assistants - on both sides of the ball.

I think we all know the first couple years for our new DC will be learning from Chizik. At least, that's what I would expect.

yea he prolly just wanted to find someone that agreed with his philosophies on defense, and Bolt and Chizik worked together at Clemson!! The one thing, we have two damn big coordinators man, they might put Mangino to shame, well at least Bolt, wow

Let's leave the fat jokes off the board. He's a part of the Cyclone family now.

Re: ISU's New Defensive Coordinator - Wayne Bolt

so what type of things should we see now? like fromation wise, for offense and defense

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Also his head coach at UAB was Watson Brown, brother to Mack Brown, so the Brown family might have something to do with the hire, huh!

We might not know them now, but Chizik has to have pretty good reasons for hiring these people. He seems to know what he is doing. I also feel that the d coordinator won't be doing a whole lot this next year with Chizik's defensive background.
