Thumbs down

A few notes on this weekends All-Elite Camp
Jeremy
CycloneFanatic

I wanted to let everybody know about a few notes of interest about this past weekend's All-Elite Basketball Camp at Iowa State.
 • P'Allen Stinnett, the man of the week, has shown extreme interest in Iowa State and Iowa State has shown a lot of love in return. From what I have heard, P'Allen still has ISU as his top choice and will be trying to pursue that interest in the near future. The Iowa State coaching staff was very impressed with his overall play this weekend, albeit a little selfish at times. There are rumors that P'Allen and Craig Brackins will be sharing a room together at Brewster Academy come fall (two sources).
 • Jon Leuer, 6-10 200lbs PF, has been offered a scholarship by Iowa State. Leuer has received the most interest so far from Kansas, Wake Forest, and Minnesota but currently stands with ISU as the only one of his main choices to offer a scholarship thus far. Leuer played very consistently in this weekends games and is said to be improving every time he steps on the court. Look for Leuer's stock to rise heavily over the summer months.
 • Wesley Johnson, recent ISU recruit, is said to have been one of the stars of the weekend. Everybody I have talked to is incredibly impressed with Wesley's overall performance and consistency. It was said that Wesley was second to only Clark when it comes to leadership and control on the court. I have been told that Wesley will impress everybody with his incredible skills despite being relatively unheard of.
I hope to have some more information to share later in the day once I am able to confirm everything.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Scout has raised Jon Leuer to a 4 star recruit, and confirms an offer from ISU. Not a done deal yet, but when has ISU ever had 2 four star PF recruits on the same team?

Didn't end up on the same team, but Tagg and Theo were both 4 star.

Look at this...

Corey Johnson is a legit 4*
Brackins is a soon-to-be 5*
P'Allen is a legit 4*
Jon Leuer is a 4*

And there are several other potential offers going out to numerous 4 and 5 star players. Not too shabby for a few months on the job:)

any idea on how long before stinnett and leuer decide where they are going?

BTW, that would be pretty sweet if we got both of them, that would make it 3 four star recruits for 2007. We would definatly have one of the top classes in the nation!

And where are they now? Leuer and Brackins are not on the same team either, and apparenty Taggs and Theo were highly overrated. My point was only to emphasize the job the current staff are doing in recruiting.

Yea I knew what the post meant.....just trying to use it to make a little joke. Yea there were both highly overrated. But just out of curiousity, I wanted to find out what Taggs would have done if he didn't lose all that weight at the beginning of the year.

Corey Johnson isn't a 4* by any service. I think he's good but you just can't decide who is a 4* and who isn't. Or is he a 4* somewhere? he may be.

From all indications, he would easily have been a four star had he elected some of the other schools that showed interest in him late. He committed early and to a program that wasn't highly thought of (ISU). From everybody I've talked to, he is easily a four star player. He could easily get to 240-245 by his Junior year so I think he will be a stud in everybody's book as long as he works hard.

Jeremy -

I'm still confused though, because I thought that when everything comes down with the APR stuff, we'll only have one more scholarship to offer after Brackins. We've offered Leuer... is Stinnett out then if Leuer accepts?

I really hope we could get both of them. The health of the program would be so much better with that recruiting class and it could really lay the foundation for good years to come. I'm simply pissed that we could have scholarships taken away because guys left after a coaching change. I know the APR is there for a reason... and I didn't think this was it.

Even if we have APR scholarship issues, we can spread those out between 07 and 08 so we could have up to 4 scholarships to give for 07. I think the staff is trying to look at 07 and 08 as one big recruiting class to find the best players out of the two classes that would help us the most.

Brackins is a solid choice, Stinnett would most likely be a very good choice, and then there are still two possible scholarships to hand out if we want.

Ahh...see I thought we only had two to offer for 2007. This makes me feel so much better, that would allow for almost a whole starting five to come in. This pleases me.

Ignore my angry rants.

ON ANOTHER NOTE... did you hear anything else about other players besides Wesley Johnson? How about Taylor and McIntosh, and how did Cory Johnson look? People have been speculating him playing at the PF position, but with Leuer offered, and with Marsden, Thompson, and Brackins beginning in two years, is there a need for him there? I always assumed CJ would be the heir apparent for Rahshon, and with his height it seems like he would be better off there.

When you write it up, we want to know if 6-10 Jon Lauer can jump and move his feet (thinking Tags).

I'm not arguing at all that he's worthy of 4 stars. But, if fans were able to apply stars to their recruits there would be many more 4 star players than there are. You can't say we have 'x' number of 4 and 5 star players and insert your own number as 'x'.
