ISU's Lyndsey Medders And David Rotich Nominated For Big 12 Medal Of Honor Award

Both earned All-America and academic all-District honors in 2005-06.

AMES, Iowa - All-Americans Lyndsey Medders and David Rotich are ISU's nominees for the 2006 Big 12 Medal of Honor Award, an honor given annually for student-athletes who excel in both competition and academics.

Medders, a junior from Los Angeles, Calif., earned third-team All-America honors and first-team all-Big 12 accolades after averaging 16.5 ppg in 2005-06. Medders was one of the best floor leaders in the nation, breaking the ISU single-season record in assists with 215. The point guard led the nation in assists (7.7 apg) and broke the single-game record for dimes with 16 vs. IPFW. Already a member of the women's basketball 1,000-point club, Medders was a District VII Academic All-American and first-team academic all-Big 12 member. Medders owns a 3.43 GPA in sports management.

Rotich capped off an outstanding senior season by earning All-America honors twice in track and field. The Eldoret, Kenya native finished second in the indoor mile at the NCAA Championships, clocking the second fastest collegiate indoor time in the nation at 4:13.12. He currently owns the school record in the indoor mile at 3:59.50. Rotich placed seventh last week in the 1,500-meter run at 2006 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a time of 3:34.50. A 2006 District VII Academic All-American, Rotich accumulated a 3.42 GPA in accounting.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.
