University Funding At SUI, ISU and UNI

Which ends up being $145 per student assuming 26,000 students/

Anybody know anything about a GSB fee that is given to the athletic department?

A while ago I heard some talk about how this was an optional deal...sort of a forced donation from students through GSB.

I've seen post stating SUI has higher enrollment than ISU so I looked at the detailed numbers and present the facts here for the full time students, broken down by undergraduate, graduate and professional enrollment. The real data from Fall 2005 enrollment directly off of the Regents website.

Often you will see FTE enrollment figures, but don't pay attention to that. FTE measures the number of credits, but expresses it in terms of number of students assuming an average credit load. FTE numbers make enrollment numbers look lower, but they don't really affect the comparison of real, full-time students.

You will also on occasion see numbers that count both full-time and part-time students. Someone enrolled in a class taking a single credit hour (if that's possible) is counted the same as a full-time student. These numbers reported as Headcount but they don't really do a good job of representing what most people generally consider as enrollment. There are about 2,100 more part-time students at SUI than ISU. UNI has about 1200 fewer part-time students than ISU.

Here are the raw facts for full-time students:

Undergrad enrollment:

I'm wondering if interns fall into that classification, although I'm just guessing. Something causes higher numbers at the SUI.)

As far as the money debate goes...we seem to be inproving quite a bit on the academic side of things at least.

"Sponsored funding continues to rise. Last year, we set another new record with $287 million brought in by our faculty and staff, up nearly 5 percent over last year, and research funding alone up 10 percent.

We had very impressive growth in private giving from alumni and friends, with more than 55,000 donors. That's a new record and a 17 percent increase in two years. We raised $82 million in gifts last year from alumni and friends, up 30 percent from the previous year and up 112 percent in two years. The gifts are wonderful in themselves, but more than anything, this tremendous support signals confidence in the university and the directions we are going." - Gregory L. Geoffroy

As far as I could tell, this is just money that is raised and not counting state/federal funding and tuition or an overall budget.

A "professional" student is one in, for example, medical or law school (or veterinary school at ISU). Since SUI has big medicine and law colleges, this explains the much larger number of professional students.
