Will Blalock vs. Curtis Stinson
Since the NBA draft is just around the corner, I thought I would throw out a question for debate like we used to do regularly.
Who is the better player and why; Curtis Stinson or Will Blalock?
As a side note, I have seen several mock drafts and the consensus appears to be that Will's ranking is vastly improving while Stinson's appears to be slipping some. I even saw one mock draft that had Will going in the early 20's and Curtis going in the 40's.
The NBA draft is tomorrow night. There are 2 rounds, each with 30 picks.

Better player at ISU? Curtis.
Better NBA prospect? Will.

I would label CS as the best player as of today, but WB has the potential to be the better player in the future.
CS has the mental toughness that WB lacks. WB has the ball handling skills and athleticism that CS lacks. I think it will be a long shot for either to have a successful NBA career.

I think WBs game just translates better to the NBA. WB has advantages in speed, hops, outside shooting, and unselfishness/not forcing things. CS is clearly stronger and more aggressive, but those traits may not help him nearly as much when trying to become a successful NBA role player guard. We'll see for sure how NBA teams rate them tomorrow night. And we'll likely have to wait a few years to know for sure whether either can make it in the NBA. I think WB should be able to find a niche as a backup PG. CS, I'm not so sure. The main advantages I see for CS is the size/ability to play both guard positions and perhaps better at getting to/finishing around the basket. CS also has shown some very good instincts/basketball smarts, although WB isn't bad there either.

Stinson is one of those players that you love when there good and pull your hair out when they suck. See Jake Plummer. I can watch him have a great game then the next week he sets an NFL record-for throwing an interception with both hands..I look back now and laugh but I guess......

Stinson is a great scorer. Will has always had a much better all-around game, and is tougher mentally. They both can take the ball to the basket, but Will makes better passing decisions and can run the team much better. If I were starting a team, I would pick Will first. To pick Stinson over Will I'd have to already have a point guard and even also a big man, because Stinson is much more effective then.

Blalock is by far the smarter player. Stinson had more points in college, but he took far too many dumb shots, and got out of control at times. Stinson always seemed to handle the pressure better than Blalock, and I think Will liked Stinson being the go-to guy so he didn't have the pressure on himself.
I would pick Blalock over Stinson in most settings (maybe not in streetball where Stinson's toughness can beat anyone). I really think Blalock would have been a superstar in a more structured environment without Stinson and without Morgan's coaching style.
