Post Quick Post-Game Analysis From Hilton

Quick Post-Game Analysis From Hilton
CycloneFanatic.com
Jeremy Lind

Iowa State 58 - Oklahoma 51

- Great first half, lots of energy, great team effort.

- Hubalek was everywhere tonight. 26 points and 9 rebounds simply don't speak loud enough to the energy he played with.

- Terrible night for Wesley. Typical night for McIntosh and Taylor. Great first half for Clark, average second half.

- Second half meltdown but the mediocre crowd kept the team in it down the stretch. A lot of mental mistakes, mostly by the guards.

- Personal opinion: Too many mistakes by the key ball handlers. We might have won tonight but it was on the line simply because of the lack of experience and leadership when it was needed.

- Player of the game: Without a doubt Jiri.

- Defender of the game: Too close to award.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

I have to give some credit to Rashon too. He's been a little beat up about his lack of scoring ability, and if he continues to go to the rack like he did tonight, he will get his points. That rebound dunk was amazing.

defender im going to give to clark.. because if im not mistakin he was either guarding neal or carter.. and neither had a good game against us

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Re: Quick Post-Game Analysis From Hilton

It seemed that Wesley was getting a raw deal from where I was sitting. I was on the east end, but his 3rd and 4th fouls looked questionable at best.

Here is why I think this game was a huge positive: How many of you thought we could win a game against anyone when Mike Taylor and Wesley Johnson combine for 13 points and 1 rebound?

Wes never had a chance to get into the flow of the game. I was most disappointed in Marsden.

Taylor had some mistakes but made some really nice passes. Thats a lot of pressure for him to handle the ball when nobody else on that team can even dribble in traffic.

Jiri played well. Jessan played well. Clark played well. "the salad" never hurt us. Dunson didnt hurt us.

Rough nights for CMac and Ross.

Team played with tons of energy and executed on O more tonite than we have in the last couple games combined.

Go Clones! Go Knights!

OK I CANT STAND IT ANYMORE!!! What is wrong with Ross's play?!?!?! I think he is coming in and doin all right, he is playin ok Def. and when the ref just auto. calls a foul.. what is he sposed to do? i mean ross once again was doin the little things.. keeping the ball alive a couple of times, getting a couple of rebounds and being in the right spots at the right times.. i really do not understand why people are so upset about the play of Ross

I've been one of his biggest supporter's all year. I bit my tongue earlier in the year when people groaned about him coming in and I thought he was playing by far our best post defense on the team. He wasn't flashy, but he was being in good position and not hurting the team.

I think it was against Missouri or maybe Baylor that Ross had two shooting fouls in about 10 seconds, and then tonight he gave Longar two quick opportunities at an And 1.

He's always working hard out there and trying to play his role, so you have to love that. It's unfortunate that our guards don't try to penetrate adn dish it to Ross for the 10 foot jumper that he's so good at.

I know he's battled some illness, he just hasn't progressed as much as I anticipated at this point of the season. I think he'll be a solid contributor in the future.

The only reason I get upset is because I don't see what he brings that CJ doesn't.

Everyone I know likes Ross, but this season is just going to be tough after his injury and not having a point to get him the ball. Just kinda looks lost. Hopefully a good summers work will get him to be a servicable backup for next year.

What we're upset about is when Longar does the baseline drop step on him 3 possessions in a row and he gets burned everytime! At least on the 3rd one he didn't foul him.

I'm going to give him the benifit of the doubt that Clark or Dunson was out of position the time he came off of Longar underneath for the wide open dunk.

If you were watching the same game I was, Ross looked slow with a capital W.

I was surprised we didn't see Cory tonight, especially when Longar wasn't in the game. Other than him, their biggest guy was about the size of Cory.

It's not Ross' fault that phantom fouls are called when he's playing straight up defense. Some calls in the second half tonight were ponderous. Cut the guy some slack-- he's battled back from being sick and will only get better for us from here on out. Show him some love and hopefully he'll show you some in return.

Re: Quick Post-Game Analysis From Hilton

I thought Marsden is regressing as the season goes along. I assume its due to a lack of PT due to Jiri picking it up. To start the season he was aggressive on the defensive end. Now he seems to shy away from contact because he's afraid of getting a foul. I never expected him to be a major scorer but he needs to work on bodying up on his guy. Hopefully a full offseason with McDermott will get him ready to contribute more.
