  • Iowa State Women's Basketball coach Bill Fennelly is recovering after having surgery on a cancerous growth on the vocal cords. This is Fennelly's second round of surgery in two years to try and battle the cancer. Our wishes and thoughts go out to Bill and his family during this time of uncertainty and anxiety.
  • The Iowa State Football coaching staff is getting close to having a couple more commitments for the 2007-08 class. From what has been said, it appears two or three candidates are likely to commit in the coming week. Stay tuned for more information on this topic.
  • The Iowa State Men's Basketball coaching staff is still analyzing all the possibilities but it does not appear an offer will be extended to Chad Millard until the staff has some feedback from some of their priority recruits. Millard currently holds an offer from Iowa and is thought to be very interested in what ISU could offer, if anything. I have been told that Millard would be a sure signee if ISU made a move but with the offers currently on the table and a few more possibilities, it appears unlikely any move would be made in the immediate future. Stinnett and McFarland are said to be in the 60-75% range of committing to ISU and Leuer is still showing some interest as well.
  • On a side note, it appears very likely that Lance Armstrong will be participating in at least two days worth of RAGBRAI this July. Armstrong will not be in France for the Tour that he has mastered so dominantly the past seven years. Look for more information regarding what dates and what stretches of the ride Lance will participate in in the coming week.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Jeremy,

Is there even a remote chance that the staff would bring in another player yet for '06? Maybe a power forward? How many scholarships will be given for the '07-'08 class?

I really think the coaching staff is pleased with what they have going into the fall and I don't see them adding anybody. I think that right now things are too early and too fluid to guess on scholarships for 07 and 08. I know that the staff has some PG's in mind for 07 but is willing to push back a true PG until the 08 class and won't just settle for anybody. Hopefully things will be a little more clear after we get the Stinnett and McFarland scholarships committed and go from there.
