After the first period, the Cyclones are tied with Kent State 1-1. Allen Raushel scored early in the first off a rebound created by Matt McLin. Trent baker has been solid, stopping 10 of 11 shots (unofficially).

The lone Ken State goal came on the power play late in the first period after Baker put on a show. The Cyclones simply couldn't clear the puck before Eddie Martin tucked one under Baker.

We'll keep you posted live from Bird Arena in Athens, OH! See you after the second!

Thanks for the updates!!

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Re: MH: Cyclone CSCHL Playoff Game One Thread

WOW. A lot has happened since we last met. The Cyclones went on the offensive in a big way. But the story of the game has been Allen Raushel. The Cyclones currently lead 4-2, and Raushel has been a part of every one of 'em. He scored the first two goals of the period to complete the hat trick. Then he assisted on Brian Spring's goal to cap off a barrage of Cyclone Offense.

The clones out shot Kent State 12-6 for 18-17 total for the game. Trent Baker has been solid still (16 saves). Iowa State is in the driver's seat as we head into the final frame. But it ain't over til it's over. Kent State still boasts the nation's best offense, so anything can happen.

If Iowa State can continue its mastery of the Golden Flashes, it should be a good outcome.

Stat of the Week: Allen Raushel now has 5 goals in 3 games, all against the Golden Flashes. If you recall, he represented his nation at the World University Games in Turin, Italy. Perhaps playing against the world's best rubbed off on the already talented player. He's been about as dominant as I've ever seen.

Stay tuned for more updates. We'll see you again after the game! GO CYCLONES!

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!! Cyclones Win 8-2! That's not hard to believe...what's hard to believe is that Senior Goalie Trent Baker SCORES his first career goal. It rarely happens, but Baker sent the puck down the ice into the open net for the 8th and Final Goal. The Cyclones will advance to the semi finals and will play the winner of #2 Ohio vs. #15 Michigan-Dearborn.

Allen Raushel finished the day with 5 points assisting on Brian Spring's second goal. Pete Majkozak scored with assists from Shane Mytnik and Trent Baker (Goalie assists are also rare.) Mike Murtaugh scored an empty netter as well.

Finally Baker stole the show. He stopped nearly 30 shots and ended up with 2 points. This was a great game, and makes me proud to be a CYCLONE! Way to go guys!!!!

Re: MH: Cyclone CSCHL Playoff Game One Thread

Baker's goal will be found on youtube in the near future. I'll be sure to link it when I have the chance. Secondly, there is unfortunately no broadcast for this tournament. But we will be back on Air next week in the final home series of the season.

Both teams the Cyclones will play are talented and it should be a stellar game tonight. Ohio and Mich-Dearborn play at 7:30 tonight. This is Ohio's home ice and is considered one of the toughest rinks to play in. But the Cyclones absolutely dominated here today. They play like that against either team, and they have a shot.

Tomorrow, the Cyclones will play at 7:30 EST/8:30 Central. I will be on here again. I'm covering all of the games, so I will post final scores from the other tourney games on this thread. Tomorrow, we'll have a new thread for Semi-Final ACTION!

Up Next: #7 Lindenwood vs. #20 Robert Morris. Starting at 12 PM CST.

Re: MH: Cyclone CSCHL Playoff Game One Thread

I sure did get those times wrong...I mean 6:30 CST. My bad.

Just got done scouting Lindenwood and Robert Morris, heck of a game. Lindenwood won 9-5 in a goal fest. Up next is ISU's arch-rival and defending conference champ, Illinois. They play Eastern Michigan here in a few minutes. I'll have the score at the end of the game.

Just being here has been a blast. The CSCHL is definitely the premiere conference of the ACHA. The talent is just phenominal. The game is fast and the teams are strong. It's a great day for HOCKEY!
