Boy oh Boy, It feels good to be the CSCHL Champs. But don't think the Cyclones will be resting on their laurels. There is a bit of unfinished business left to take care of. If you think this team will settle for the Easton Cup, the CSCHL's end of season award, you're dead wrong.
There is another cup that the Cyclones have their sights set on. That is none other than the Dr. Alan Murdoch Cup awarded to the ACHA's Division 1 National Champion. The team is confident that the Cup named after our very own Coach Murdoch is coming home for the first time since 1992.
The Cyclones have been part of the Final Four 12 times, runner up six times, and only the champs once. So now is the time to make a change.
Coming off of the biggest weekend the Cyclones have had since 2002, there is a lot of confidence and that championship attitude. The Cyclones beat 3 teams that will be at this year's national tournament.
#9 Kent State fell to the Clones 8-2, #2 Ohio were beaten both on the score board and physically on Saturday losing 4-3, and finally #3 Illinois (who was #1 almost the entire season) were dominated 5-3 in the title game.
This is the first installment of the build up to the National Tournament. Tomorrow we will talk with Trent Baker about being the MVP of the CSCHL Tournament and being considered the X factor when it comes to winning the big one. We'll have a chat with Coach Murdoch about his 1992 team. We'll also catch up with Allen Raushel, Mike Murtaugh, Brent Cornelius, and Jayson Peterson. So stay tuned, we got a lot coming your way this week.
Reminder, your last chance to see the Cyclones at home is this weekend.
Friday, Feb. 23 - 7:30 PM vs. Minnesota - Garunteed Win Night, if the Cyclones don't win you get a free gift certificate to Taco John's
Saturday, Feb. 24 - 7:30 PM vs. Minnesota - Enter to win one of 2 free iPods!
Also Join us early on Friday as we honor the 2007 CSCHL Champions and Carl Rohr, a staple in Iowa Hockey for more than 50 Years.

I was thinking that when I was a freshman at ISU in 1999-2000 that I was told ISU had won the national title the previous year, but it was taken away because one of the players on the team was not supposed to be playing or something along those lines

I remember that too. I think he played professionally before coming to Ames. Oh well, we won technically anyway. =)

| Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." |

Looks like one Friday and one Saturday night.
God love any Cyclones but am I the only one that thinks a club team shouldn't be front page news???

Cyclone Hockey has been one of the best ambassadors for Iowa State due to their willingness to sacrifice (in my day they sold blood to pay for their road trips), work ethic, friendliness, and the result -- SUCCESS!
I know they are not true Division 1 scholarship athletes but that doesn't mean that they can't be role models for our kids. In some ways I think they better represent the people of Iowa and especially the graduates of Iowa State. If all of our athletes showed the average level of dedication that these young student athletes show, we would be nationally respected in all of sports.

thanks for the kind words! Our guys are always willing to do whatever for the community. We may not have the best facilities or the best athletes, but we have some amazing students who love the game, the school and Ames.
The time commitment the guys give is close to 4 hours a day, every weekend night, and a lot of hours on the road. They train as hard as any of the other teams here, I'll put money on that. No matter what way you slice it or what you call us, WE WIN.
These guys pay a price to play. They play the game at its purest form. They are not here for popularity or money or anything like that. Our players play for the love of the game and they just so happen to be darn good.
We accept that we are not a varsity sport. But we run ourselves as if we were, our players play as if they are, and we represent Iowa State well. That's what its all about. We love this school and we want to make it and all of its fans proud.
