Post MBB: Johnson Earns National Recognition

MBB: Johnson Earns National Recognition
Media Relations

AMES, Iowa- Iowa State freshman forward Wesley Johnson was named honorable mention freshman All-American by Collegehoops.net.

A native of Corsicana, Texas, Johnson enjoyed an outstanding rookie season where he averaged 12.3 points and 7.9 rebounds. Johnson, who led the Cyclones and ranks in the top-five in the Big 12 in rebounding, also paced the squad in double-doubles (11) and blocks (33). His 33 rejections and 32 treys on the season both rank third on ISU’s freshmen charts.

The 6-7 forward was named to the Big 12 all-Newcomer team by the league’s coaches and was a Big 12 all-Freshman selection by the Kansas City Star.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Re: MBB: Johnson Earns National Recognition

not bad for a "2 star" recruit. There are about as many players on this list as there were McD AA's-so what I am saying is after the fact, Wesley could have been a McD AA.

Of course, he would have had to play as a senior to get that recognition.

Hats off to coach McD and his staff for finding this needle in the haystack

Mind the gap!

There is proof that recruiting rankings don't mean anything. Wes was a 2 star recruit and now he is hangin with the big boys of the recruiting world.

Most of the players on this list are 5 star McD's AA's though...what I'm saying is ranking do mean something but not always. WJ is already a fantastic player...I can't wait to watch him the next few years.

They sure mean something as most of this list are 5 star guys. But it just proves there are diamonds in the rough out there.

Personally I think the ranking is bull $hi!
You can't tell me that Thug Smith from the suckeyes had a better season than WJ. WJ's easliy a second teamer on that list.
