Post WBB: Cyclones Make Final AP Poll

WBB: Cyclones Make Final AP Poll
Media Relations

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women’s basketball team earned a No. 24 ranking in the final Associated Press Poll released on Monday afternoon. It is the first ranking of the season for the Cyclones, after receiving votes a majority of the campaign.

Iowa State is 25-8 on the season and finished tied for fourth in the Big 12 regular-season standings with Nebraska after a 10-6 conference finish. The Cyclones advanced to the title game of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship last week, where ISU fell 67-60 to 11th-ranked Oklahoma. The Cyclones knocked off Kansas State, Nebraska and 13th-ranked Texas A&M en route to the championship contest.

The Cyclones have won four contests this season against teams ranked in the top 25, including a pair of games against Texas A&M, and wins over Texas and Nebraska. ISU has gone 4-3 against top 25 teams, and has reached 25 wins for just the fifth time in school history, all under the direction of head coach Bill Fennelly. Iowa State has won nine out of its last 11 games, including a stretch of eight straight before falling to OU on Saturday. Iowa State holds a 5-4 record against teams in the current RPI top 40 according to collegerpi.com, and a 13-6 mark against teams in the top 80.

Iowa State will learn its postseason fate tonight when the NCAA Women’s Selection Show airs on ESPN at 7 p.m. Central time.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.
