Jeremy
Just as a quick update on some stories I'm working on that I have discussed briefly before; - ISU has offered another Point Guard in the way of Melvin Goins. Goins is a 6' 185lbs PG from Cleveland Heritage Christian Academy in Texas and currently has Florida State, Iowa State, Indiana, and Clemson as possible choices.
- ISU is currently near the top of the list for Michael Jordan's son, Jeffrey Jordan. Jeffrey is currently looking at ISU, Iowa, Marquette, and Oklahoma State. More interest is expected as the summer goes on.
- I am expecting around three (give or take) more offers to be handed out in the next week or two by the MBB coaching staff. With the staff getting into the 07-08 recruiting cycle a little late, they are making sure to cover all possibilities by offering to those few that appeal to them very strongly and then decide who to focus on extremely hard as players make their decisions. It's a good philosophy of covering all your bases when you're trying to build the best possible team with limited resources (ie getting started late).
- I do believe there is one more MBB offer that has already been handed down that I am working on confirming.
- Stay tuned for lots more news in the coming days. It's going to be a very active end to the week by all accounts.
As a side note, CycloneNation's Chris Williams will be discussing ISU basketball on the Marty & Miller show this afternoon.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. |

I believe he is listed as a point guard, so I wouldn't expect he is anything resembling his father. I don't think anyone should really be making much of a deal of this. Jordan isn't listed very high by any rating service and it could cause more problems than good by having him on our team. I know there are potential benefits as well. If it happens, great but should he choose to go elsewhere, it wouldn't bother me a bit.

I thought we handed out all of the 2007 scholarships. Isn't Jeff Jordan also in the 07 class? How does that work?

So what, McD has handed out like 10 scholarships for the 07 class? It seems like he is just handing out "offers" left and right and just hoping a few stick. Don't get me wrong, I really like what he's done so far and the talent he is going after looks top notch, but is this normal to hand out all these offers? Do we have any confirmation on exactly how many have been offered?

I'm pretty sure it's a common practice to offer many scholarships... just cuz we offer someone... doesn't mean he's automatically coming. If teams only offer what's available... they won't ever get filled. And I'm sure that they come with stipulations... they're like a window of opportunity... If we've offered, you can accept and you're a clone. But you've got to accept before the offer is withdrawn. We land somebody else to fill your shoes... then you missed your opportunity type thing. I can't swear 100% that's how it is... but I'm betting it is pretty darn close.
Otherwise nobody would accept their offer till the last second so they can see all their choices if they were guaranteed that their offer stands forever.

yeah, its basically a first-come-first-serve thing. We have one scholly for the three PGs we've offered. 1 scholly for P'Allen. and 1 scholly for either andre mcFarland or Jon Leuer. whoever commits first gets the scholly.

Well I don't think Jeffery Jordan would be a bad pickup at all. Here's why..
1. Great publicity(i don't think the Register could ignore having the son of probably the great bball player ever.)
2. Gain interest in the program.(ESPN, they already ran a story on him last year.)
3. He has a great upside.
4. I definetly dont want Iowa to get him(you know what hawk fans are like)
I trust McDermott in his choices. If he has an attitude where he thinks he is more important than the team or thinks he is special, I doubt McDermott would go after him. Sure a better PG would be awesome but Jeffery Jordan sure wouldn't suck.

Considering its basically who ever accepts the offer first gets the spot and there are many combinations out there of who we could get, what would be the combination that you guys would want? Which out of Goins, Garrett, and Delaney would you want? I dont know who ISU is recruiting that would compare against P'Allen so we will just say Jordan since that is who everyone is talking about. Then who would you rather have out of Leuer or McFarland?
I would say that my wish list would look like this!
1. Garrett- Sounds like he is really flying under the radar compared to other recruits, also sounds like he will be a major steal if we get him. It sounds as if no one has heard about him early since he got in a car accident his junior year so that prevented any coaches from getting in on him without any one knowing too much about his game.
2. Stinnett- If I were to choose between Stinnett and Jordan i would still say Stinnett. We are a rebuilding team with all the losses we have suffered and we cant waste a scholarship on something that COULD be good just because of the name. I would rather have someone that can step in and play big 12 ball!
3. McFarland- I would like to have Leuer but it sounds like we wont get him (atleast hes not turning us down for the hawkeyes). But i think this could be a very good thing if we got McFarland due to the fact that him, Brackins, and Stinnett will be playing on the same team next year. Think how much easier it will get the team to play together instead of working with 3 players that have never played a game with each other before.
